f2l look ahead

Do the top cubers use lookahead the same way it is usually described? I read that other bumped thread about "limits", where they say that 5 tps should have been the limit during F2L for decent lookahead. However, watching Feliks, he's usually done with F2L at the 4 second mark. And...
