It sounds like it checks the boxes for a decent novel but what about the writing style? I just read a sample and it seems to have one similar to "The Giver" which is a great book but I found the writing style to simple, like a monotone narrative.
Life of Pi's style is very elegant and a piece of art it is also written in a way that almost makes one think that it actually happened whereas Dune seems like an empty sci-fi that you aren't even supposed to consider it a reality. What sets Dune apart from its competitors?
Dune is more about scale and not trusting others. Betrayal, and Defection. Yadda yadda yadda yadda. On the surface, the Dune books offer an unlikely combination of oldfashioned space opera and up‐todate ecological concern which is a real issue nowadays. It feels real, through the excessive detailing of the world, and you feel like you're there.
@Cubing Forever I think that's kind of the point of the book. It's not the type that is fast paced and intriguing, but more like a book that forces you to read slowly and think. I feel like I'm on the lifeboat with him floating on the ocean s l o w l y just waiting and sharing thoughts. It's not an action-packed book where every page is bursting with excitement.
