Just back from African Championships this weekend where I lost my 4BLD NR but managed to snag the first ever 4BLD mean in Africa. Still don't have a 3BLD mean though. Next up, hopefully a 5BLD mean? Still haven't got one even in practice yet.

Always good to see another South African on the forums! Nice range of events - glad to see FMC on that list ;) And from your WCA ID, I see you'll be at African Champs in October. Look forward to seeing you there.

Nice to see another cuber from Africa! I think many cubers first start off solving in around 2 minutes, and times like 20 seconds seem impossibly far away. But you'll be surprised by how fast you can improve if you regularly practice. Of course, learning new algorithms also helps here. I'm sure...

Great to see someone putting in the work to get a new country on to the WCA map! From the report it seems like the first ever Sri Lanka competition went really well, especially considering the economic and political challenges in the country. I hope those challenges don't derail the future of...

Amazing stuff. Anyone got a reconstruction?

Assuming your first two layers are fully done, then you do have an impossible case. After the first two layers step, you will always have 0, 2 or 4 edge pieces of the last layer correctly oriented (yellow side up in your case). With exactly 3 edges oriented you'll be stuck between having 1 and 3...

This is a hobby that is dominated by kids and young adults, so it's always nice to someone close to my own age picking it up. Consider joining us over in the Older cubers discussions thread.

Welcome Anthony. Were you at the competition in Balbriggan last month? Although I've been to quite a few comps, that one was my first in Ireland and it really left me with a strong positive impression of the cubing community in your country.

Since the above, I've learned how to do 5BLD. First competition with 5BLD was a disaster as there was far too much noise (outside the competition's control). I did somehow manage to scrape together a slow 4BLD success, but double DNFed the 5BLD. And now I've just returned from an overseas trip...

Going to need seem clarification here... Do you mean the sum of an individual's PB singles across all 17 WCA events? How do you count FMC and MBLD?

I was at a competition when Zayn Khanani set a 2x2 WR Average, except I was across the street grabbing lunch at the time. I was at a competition when Stanley Chapel set a 4BLD WR Single, except I was solving and blindfolded at the time. And I was at World Champs 2019 when the Skewb WR single was...

Make sure to attend the new competitor's briefing usually held at the beginning of the competition. All the procedures being used for your competition should be explained there.

If I understand correctly you're looking for algs to swap the buffer, presumably (DF), with targets on the M-slice. The M-slice algs I use: UB: M2 BU: (U M')*3 (U M) (U M')*4 UF: U2 M' U2 M' [swap with DB if 2nd in pair] FU: D M' (U R2 U') M (U R2 U') D' M2 [swap with BD if 2nd in pair] DB: M...

Nice to see another older cuber on these forums. Note that you don't need to have good times on 3x3 before learning FMC and blind. The methods and skills involved are mostly quite different to regular 3x3 so if they sound interesting to you, just go for it and watch or read some tutorials.

Good news... my first solve of today's competition was a 4BLD success, a 7:14 and a NR! Ended up just 2 swapped centers away from my first official 4BLD mean.
