[Help Thread] Roux Discussion and Help

Use inspection as much as possible. I also suspect that you may not be used to the sort of weird color neutrality of Roux. Most (read: almost all) solvers will only use yellow or white as the bottom color, but be able to use any of the other colors as the first and second block colors. Make sure...

It’s pretty good but not great with Roux. I average high 14 and got an 11.4

    [Help Thread] Clock Discussion

Ok, I’ve been hearing enough about this no-flip method that I have to try it. I’ll report back in a week or so if I can get myself to learn this.

    [Help Thread] Clock Discussion

IMO, if it works and is not breaking the clock, there isn’t a problem. I haven’t seen it, but you could leave it there, or open the clock up and clean it out.

    [Help Thread] Clock Discussion

Right now, my understanding is that no-flip is used when it is very helpful to do so (very special cases, 2 move sides, etc.). I think Aedan Bryant uses it some, but I don’t know if any top level solver uses it exclusively or even the majority of the time. Flipping, especially x2 flips, are so...

That’s not super common, I don’t think. I think generally most people have a pin order that goes around the circle. You just really need to make sure that when special cases, like doubled pins or cross pins come up, you know every time how to deal with them. I can talk about that more if you want.

To anyone who has switched methods, what is your story?

I got down to 27 seconds in about 4 months after starting, and then I switched from CFOP to Roux. Now, 2 years later, I’m about 14 seconds and do not regret it one bit.

    [Help Thread] Clock Discussion

Ok, so I’m about low 7 seconds to high 6 seconds on average. I think I’m qualified enough to answer this question. In general, there are no really advanced methods to learn. You definitely can, but it only starts becoming useful at about my level (and I don’t plan to learn them for a while)...

Goals for a while: improve lookahead on 3x3 actually learn CMLL get maybe sub-13? clock: consistent sub-7, as much as clock can be consistent for me square-1: re-learn Lin algs and get sub-20 oh: get sub-20 I think 3 months is fair for this, I’m getting out of school for summer in a few...

    Speedstacks Gen 5 timer

If you listen to the most recent layer by layer podcast they talk about other reasons it’s important. Most importantly, you have to hold down the time off and reset buttons for a 1/2 second before it does those actions, making it much less prone to accidents. (and it may be less prone to static...
