I was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions:

  • Where are some upcoming competitions in southern CA?
  • About what time avaerage should I have in the 3x3 and 2x2?
  • Is there ever any prizes at competitions?

I was also wounding about any tips on how to get faster.

Thanks.

you can check for upcoming competitions in your area here: https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/results/competitions.php
people of all speeds can compete, it doesnt mater how fast or slow you are. the winning times vary from competition, from my experiences, the winners are usually in the 10-9 second range.
if there is going to be a prize, it will usually be a cube but they occasionally give out a plaque or something like that.

Thank you. I never knew that you could win cubes a competitions! I checked the WCA and theres nothing really close to me, so could you think of any other sites?

No. That's the only official site. There are tons of comps in California. I find that hard to believe. Prizes could be cubes, stickers, trophies or plaques for first. I won stickers for fmc.

If you're looking for a WCA competition then you already have the link.

Want a competition in your home town?

Find a venue, find other cubers in the area, find timing equipment, and ask a delegate to come along.

I'm happy to bring equipment and attend a competition.

Tim.

To California?

Yeah, just do rego through Paypal and increase it to cover the cost of a return flight and accommodation. :-P

Tim.

EDIT: I have zero interest in traveling to the US at the moment. If it's cheaper to drive to a local competition then that would probably be a better option.

Ohh...
I just assumed because of all the wr videos, lol
How is it considered oh then?

The regulations state that only one hand may touch the puzzle, but it can be accepted if any part of your body comes in contact from an initial pop. Unfortunately, you have to fix the pop OH too.

is it possible to use a solid colour stickerless cube? Not sure how to read this:

◦3h2) "Stickerless" cubes, and other cubes whose face colours are visible inside the cube, are not permitted.

All stickerless cubes are solid color, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
As to the regulation, all stickerless cubes are not permitted as it is very easy to see what the color on the other side is.

I guessed that they were referring to possible "transparent" cubes.
How exactly can you see through to the other side? it's solid and not transparent...

1. You can find all competitions at: https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/results/competitions.php
2. Competitions aren't all about being fast. If you can solve a cube in under 10 minutes, go! It can help sometimes though to be faster if you want to win.
3. Only at the big competitions like worlds do they really give prizes like money and puzzles. Usually certificates.

Hope this helps,

Computer
