WTF

EXPLORE! Petrus! ZZ! Roux! L2L4! Heise! Etcetera!
I use the former three as my main methods, Roux is my best of course.

Have a go! See what you like best! You're not trapped like those people who know OLL and PLL, although that isn't much of a hinderance at all tbh (nor an advantage).
CFOP is just one of many methods, and with blockbuilding it's always best to start early.
Good luck!

I thought "Etcetera" was a method at first...

Look-ahead is not necessary for sub-40, or sub-20 for that matter. Just solve the cube repeatedly, you'll get there.
1 week is not a very long time.

Lol you guys get stressy sometimes ;)
I was half being sarcastic, and half referring to the lazy sods who think that just because they know full OLL/PLL they can't switch although they REALLY REALLY want to. Oh, and you know I'm not a serious guy, and almost all my posts are somehow roux-biased just for the fun of it :D
By the way, when I reread my post, it sounded like I was serious... Weird.

Anyway, jorghi, do take our advice openly; don't be afraid to try new things, and do listen to us, too. It'll help you much.
And one more thing the others have not mentioned: PRACTICE!
especially if you use roux. Don't expect your blocks to be sub-10 overnight.

Ok. I'm practicing F2L. I found new ways to do weird things. But would memorizing F2L algorithms make you improve faster?

I just saw Felik's tutorials O_O

More useful stuff than over half of the ones on youtube!

Hey Jorghi,

What is your current average? If it is just under 50 seconds than simply practicing, especially f2l, will more than likely cut your times down dramatically. Also, you need to relax, if you are stressed out and worried about your times they will be bad. Your only focus should be the cube.

If you are sub 40 then you need to start making sure that you do your f2l pairs effectively; make sure that none of them take more than 8 moves. This is a high limit, but if you can do this and turn at 2 turns per second you could do your f2l in about 15 seconds which would greatly reduce your times. If you find that you are doing move that take more than 10 or 11 moves excluding setup then you should look up how others do that pair. Don't memorize their alg just get the idea and practice.

Past this point, you need to learn and practice look ahead, minimizing cube rotations and learn full pll and later oll if you desire.

I average 19 seconds right now by the way and I have only been SPEED cubing since February so you can move quickly, but you need to be open to help and suggestions.

Most of these things come with PRACTICE btw

This is the problem I'm having. At least that's what I think. My f2l isn't efficient. That and I need to focus on lookahead.

don't follow this, a few of my f2l pairs take 10+ moves and I average ~10 for f2l (including cross.)
There's no need to give yourself strict rules to follow at this point. Now, if you find yourself taking a lot of time on a particular f2l case then you should go to the [wiki]f2l[/wiki] wiki and find some alternatives.

I meant 8 moves and this does not include setup. This is meant to be a suggestion and a goal to achieve so that he can learn to do things efficiently. The longest f2l I use is 11 moves btw and most can be done in 8 or less is done effectively.

Of the two, look ahead is probably the more important assuming you aren't doing 15 plus moves for a f2l pair. Plus it will be f2l that gets you the really good times. On my best solve, the Non Lucky one at least, my f2l lookahead was amazing and if finished f2l in 6 seconds.
