30 alg substitute for OLL?

So you are basically saying you want to solve the OLL step about as fast as with normal OLL, but, without having to learn all the algs?

Faz did an a12 8.9~? With 2-look OLL, so it doesn't exactly slow you down much.
I suggest learning dot OLLs next, because they take the longest to get to cross on top. Also, learn Badmephisto's OLLs, most are really easy, and use other algs in combinations with setups. It's surprisingly easy to learn.

Learn all of the F R U R' U' F' and all of the OLLs which contain them. There are probably ~20 of them just by itself, and technically it's only a single alg you have to learn.

He already knows that, Arctic. He said he knows 2 look.

Use VHF2L if you want to avoid learning OLL algs. You orient edges while playing last F2L pair. Something like 16 cases then mirrors (I might be wrong here). It can also be done quite intuitively. You won't have to learn anymore OLLs that way.

An alternative: Instead of learning 57 OLLs, learn the 40 something COLLs. You get the added benefit of knowing CLL for 2x2 that way, and you will be left with only edge perms (Ua/b, H, Z). Learn fewer algorithms and get three times the benefit.

Or suck it up and practice since OLLs are very easy to learn, the hard part is keeping recognition. Take your time, learn 2-4 OLLs a day and you'll have it done in no time. OLLs (besides dot cases which you should learn first unless you want to be like cincyaviation and use partial edge control so you'll never need to learn those 6 cases) have similar shapes to each other so the algs are very similar (not to mention most of them contain algs that are easy to learn like setup move + eo alg + anti setup move or setup move sune etc).

40 COLLs?
For 2x2 they are kinda slow in some cases (compared to CLL)
Honestly, if you don't wanna learn many algs, Fridrich may not be the best choice for you.

With only Sune, Antisune, F R U R' U' F' and setup moves, you can already learn about 35 OLLs with no other knowledge. Thats more than half of the OLLs. It's just a matter of remembering which setup moves correspond to which OLL, which comes with practice.

This is going to go slightly offtopic, so just a warning.
This is why I recommend learning OLL as early as 35 seconds. The OLLs are actually INCREDIBLY easy to memorize, and if you choose to learn them while you practice, with maybe 2 or 3 algs a day, you can EASILY learn all of them in a couple weeks. After that, work on F2L. Although OLL does not give an incredible rate of growth, and only increases your times by 1 or 2 seconds, it is still important to learn it early, because when your cross + F2L gets to around 11 or 12 seconds, your execution and recognition will be much better than other people who only JUST learned full OLL. This is because you LEARNED OLL and were able to PRACTICE execution while others were working at their F2L. Just the practice from this execution and recognition will bring you down another 1 or 2 seconds, which seems much more significant now that your times are lower. This practice is the difference between a 15 second average and a 17 second average, which would take MUCH longer for others to do. I myself did not learn full OLL untill about 18 or 19 seconds, which is why I am still stuck at around 17 to 18 seconds. I actually regret not learning OLL earlier, which is why I am emphasizing this so much.

i.e. OLL 9 and OLL 10 is essentially M antisune undo setup move.
OLL 7 and 8 are Sune w/ Rw turns instead of R.
OLL 43 and 44 are F R U R' U' F' except with Fw turns
OLL 1,2,3,4 are combinations of f R U R' U' f' and F R U R' U' F'
etc etc

Also, using COLL for 2x2 may bring your times down a bit, but you aren't very likely to enjoy doing a 15 move 2x2 alg.

This what I did.

A lot of the rest can be executed as 2 algs you already know, you just have to learn the recognition.
A few of the more complicated ones don't turn up very often so you can skip them if you wish,
but once you started getting on with learning them you might be surprised at how easy it is.
I was getting through about 3 a day without too much time spent,
then when I woke up in the morning I double checked that I still knew them.

This is some of the worst advice you could give him. Learning COLL instead of OLL is just ridiculous. This would mean memorizing 40 algs and still having a 3 look LL almost every time. Likewise, COLL for 2x2 is a horrible idea. Why would you use COLL for 2x2 when you could use CLL which is optimized for 2x2?
