so a week ago i took apart my rubik's cube and left it in my sink with hot water. The next morning i dried and lubricated it. Now it turns great.

I was curious if anyone ever attemepted this with boiling water? to hot?

I did attempt this a few days ago, I used a pot, but the water wasnt hot enough to boil when I turned off the heat.

I often boil my cubes.

In fact, i ruined a storebought doing so.
I once microwaved water and put a vcube6 inside.
I then put it back in the microwave, and posted a thread about my results.
Very pretty results.

well im thinking i can boil the water, drop the pieces in, bring it to a boil again then let it sit for ten minutes boiling. Also why does the hot water make it better? melts plastic?

Uhhh, yes, the plastic deforms, and the pieces dont fit well anymore.

I usually keep the temperature not too hot, but hot enough to emulsify the lube and gunk into the water.

What is this magical temperature, may I ask?

We did this at Nationals with (either an ES 2x2 or a Sq-1, maybe both?). Not sure why we used hot water. All I remember was that we plugged the sink with a Snapple cap, that the cleaning/boiling of the cube ended up turning into "who can keep their hand in the water the longest and not end up with burnt fingers for finals tomorrow," and that this all occurred shortly after we played Hacky-Sack with a 2x2. Can someone else who was there correct me on the details of that?

Inb4 bubbles from steam.
