[WR] Teodor Zajder 2.76 3x3 Single

I know for me, I would not count the solve.
You can definitely do as you please, but it's a very dumb approach. Up to what level of luck do you decide whether to count a solve or not?
Why would you even think of luck like it's something bad?
You got lucky - you should be happy for yourself instead of trying to find an excuse not to.
(Also - I have a hard time believing you got a 5 on that scramble when your PB is 11, but hey, luck does sometimes create miracles.)

who’s yeheng?

if they made every scramble a 16 move scramble then easy scrambles would be more frequent(correct me if i’m wrong) + that wouldn’t be so “random” anymore
Sorry for the confusion. I have been going through more frequent issues...and got confused with the scamble count. I also meant Yiheng Wang. But I looked into this kid more, and he seems cool. Still rooting for Yiheng,or the other kid. Forgot his name. 2.76 is the record, though, right? Or am I confused again? Cuz that is CRAZY FAST!

I dont know how to feel. yay for speedcubing, yay for teodor, but he got lucky. I have a 11 second PB and i solved this scramble in 5 seconds on my first try. Yiheng Wang is my goat and im not saying this to defend him, but he doesnt get lucky. Xuanyi Geng doesnt get lucky, Max Park doesnt get lucky. these people are actual high-end speedcubers. notice teodor's fastest solve in the average was basically 5 seconds and his fastest solve ever befre the 2.76 was 4.09 seconds. these times are average for Yiheng and Xuanyi. The statistics say that.

Picture this: you are doing your solves and you get a really good scramble. You solve it with a crappy (or a good one, this could go either way) solution but still get a LL Skip. Your time is 3 seconds faster than your past PB. What do you do?
A- Know that you were lucky and dont count the solve
B- Say that that is your new PB, but dont end up breaking it for god knows how long
C- Try the scramble again to inprove your solution, but dont count any solves for that scramble

I know for me, I would not count the solve. If I were to get an 8 second solve (3 secs faster than my PB) and its a crazy lucky solve with a triple x cross and a 3 mover to complete F2L, an 8 move OLL, and a PLL skip, I wouldnt count it. I know that I got lucky, and I know that if I count the solve, I wouldnt break that record for years. That takes the fun out of speedcubing. We are already nearing a human limit and if someone with high TPS comes along with a great scramble, well, thats it. we wont be breaking the record anymore. 3x3 is done.

I dont say this to put down Teodor, congrats to him, that was a high TPS solve with an elegant solution, but you could get high TPS and good solutions on a crap ton of other scrambles and they wouldnt be 2 second solves.
This has to be ragebait.

The other kid (assuming you’re talking about the Chinese one) is Xuanyi Geng. Yes the record is 2.76 now

Nah yall are actually falling for this ragebait lmao

reminder that this is the guy who said he didn’t want to start a war over saying GAN cubes are not good😔🥀

i was joking when i asked who was “yeheng”😭💀

i choose this option because i know i’ll beat it
confidence is key
i don’t need to break my PB everyday
i just need that world champion title
oops
but your post was ragebait
so
disregard this reply

Though I think this is gonna be like Yusheng's 3.47 wr, and not be broken for a few years, just because of how much of a drop this was.
2.76 is about the same % drop as 3.13 from 3.47 was. And considering how Yiheng has like 5 3.0s, 2.76 will last like a year at most.

yea it is a lucky scramble. But also Teodor is good! No-one else got a huge PR from that scramble (in fact I think only other person even got a PR from it, but maybe I'm wrong). If it was that lucky why didn't we see everyone in the round PR from it?

point is this is not like the worlds 2019 skewb scramble (look it up if you don't know). That is a scramble so crazy that most people could PR on it.

this one actually took skill to execute. Sure probably Xuanyi, Yiheng, Max might have gotten it. But I don't think most average cubers would have WR on this one.

Also if you saw the video you had an avantage. I find it hard to believe you got it in 5 without seeing Teodors video or reconstruction.

Most decently fast cubers could build an xcross. But how many could pull off an efficient freefop block building xxxcross going straight into knowing how to insert a pair to get an optimal zbll? If you think that is all luck then you are sorely mistaken. It is a lucky scramble AND a cuber who knows how to take full advantage of block building and zbll. Most cubers wouldn't be able to execute that fast even knowing the whole solution in advance.

That was a very difficult solution to come up with, not many people know how to set up a ZBLL, and most people don't even know ZBLL.

As a grossly inefficient rouxer, I certainly would have missed the golden ticket solution unless I FreeFopped the solve (and even then Teodor exhibits some insane foresight in that solve.)

Im going to be honest with you, this was not meant to be ragebait. It is a genuine concern of mine. You all make great points, but luck is not what makes up this sport. I get it, luck is going to happen, but I dont think that this is for the best. He is a great speedcuber, but before this, he ranked 40th and had never even gotten a 3 second solve. No matter how skilled he is, he still required an insane amount of luck to beat his PR.

If you had a PR that is really really good for you and you beat your previous record by over a second, wouldnt you think that is you put so much skill into your first PR, that you would need some insane scramble to beat it in under a month?

NOT TRYING TO START FIGHTS, JUST TRYING TO MAKE A POINT

Just think, if Max Park, Xuanyi Geng, Tymon Kolisinski, or Yiheng Wang got that scramble, it would be even faster.

I understand the concern, though honestly, I think part of the magic of cubing is that it can be anyone who gets a WR. You have an idea of who will get it, and then all of a sudden it's someone completely different than what you'd expect.

If you want to make the argument that 3x3 WR single should not be something that's given attention or tracked then make that go ahead and make that argument. I'd support it.
But, trying to say that 'the luck based record doesn't hold merit and this is because the solver got "lucky" and that maybe if someone who was faster than this kid got it and was in the same group getting the same scramble that maybe perhaps they would have seen the same solution or a better solution and that under the pressure to perform well performed well and performed better maybe then this kid wouldn't have the world record and that someone more deserving would have gotten lucky in this luck based record' is, frankly, a ridiculously point to make and not one that you are coming across as well argued with.

Personally, the thing I care about for assessing how good a cuber is is by tracking their moving average. I do not think that having the WR single is all too impressive. What I find more impressive is the solvers who have a sub-5 moving average. I do not find 2x2 single or 2x2 ao5 impressive. I find it more impressive that there are solvers that can maintain a sub-1.3 moving average. Getting lucky isn't a crime and we can still recognise the significance of a record while also not associating it with "being the best-of-the-best".
If you have propositions to amend the WCA regulation in such a way where a record like this could never be repeated, go ahead. But, where the WCA is, at this point in time, this record, by all means, is 100% valid.

While I think your entire argument is poorly made I'd like to point out that saying Xuanyi, Yiheng, and Max Park don't get lucky is so comically absurd this it makes me question if you even bring up your concerns in good faith.
