This summer, I'm taking a class where I need to build a mobile app (in Android Studio). I had the idea of making an app that takes a speedcubing method and a partially-scrambled cube-state and searches for partial solutions in real time. For example, you might tell the program you are going to solve CFOP with white-cross, then the program would give you recommendations on how to make progress through the cross and the first two layers. There are a lot of different ways the program could go about doing this, but that's on me to figure out if I take this on.

The problem is I'd need a cube whose state can be accessed customarily. Are there any smartcubes with this kind of interface?

Hello there, fellow Android Studio user.

To answer your question, no, I don’t think there is a cube like that, although I may be wrong.

Maybe an alternative app that you could make is one that mimics chess.com’s game review feature. If you’re not familiar with it, then all it does, is it looks at your chess game, and tells you what you should have done, or it tells your of any moves that you may have missed, or if you’ve done a bad move. You could maybe use this, but adjust it for cubing instead. As in, you could track the user’s solve on a smartcube, and then once you complete the solve, the app will give insights on wether your cross was good or not, how to fix it, etc. Then you could repeat this step for F2L and last layer. Hope this makes sense, and let me know if this is a viable idea.
