The SZ Method (Named after SZBLL) is a 3x3 speedsolving method invented by Nishan in 2026. It focuses on ergonomics and reduces the last layer algorithm count through a CO-based ZBLL step called SZBLL. The method name SZ stands for "Sized-down ZBLL."

Steps

  1. 3C: Solve DL, DR and DB edges. Similar to a the cross step on CFOP but without the last cross piece.
  2. F2L: Solve all four F2L pairs using M moves and keyhole techniques. The cross setup allows efficient M slice integration making this step more flexible than standard CFOP F2L.
  3. L5EO: Orient all last layer edges using 5 algorithms. With all four pairs solved, recognition is easy and straightforward.
  4. SZBLL: The core innovation of SZ, 6 algorithms based on Sune and Anti-Sune that simultaneously insert the last white cross piece and deterministically force a T ZBLL. Recognition is based on identifying the OCLL patterns.
  5. T ZBLL: Solve the last layer using T ZBLL algorithms (72 algorithms + 21 PLL).

Pros

  • Reduces ZBLL from 493 to 93 cases via SZBLL (including PLL)
  • Good ergonomics
  • Rotationless F2L
  • Deterministic last layer entry via SZBLL

Cons

  • Limited resources
