RUP or PRUM or RUPM (RU reduction, Pairs and Mirror reflection) method is a Blockbuilding method for the 3x3x3 cube proposed by Tsung-Yen Wu in 2018.

The Steps

The following describes the intended approach to RUPM, also known as RUP. PRUM is a similar, albeit slightly different method. The English tutorial for RUPM is outdated, and the Chinese tutorial details the intended approach.

  1. Build a 2x2x3 block, leaving the R and U faces free
  2. EO+CP. Solve Edge orientation and Corner Permutation simultaneously by reducing to 2 misoriented edges, tracing which 2 corners need to be swapped, placing these 4 pieces in a J or L shape, and then use a 3 move trigger such as F' U F, F R F', or their mirrors to solve both cube properties at once.
  3. Build two adjacent 1x1x2 pairs on the U layer
  4. Build a 3rd 1x1x2 pair while also twisting all corners to face the same direction. This is not the same as solving corner orientation, as the corners could all be twisted clockwise or anticlockwise. The 3rd pair should be made of the pieces belonging in DR and DBR.
  5. Solve a 4th 1x1x2 pair, using either the UF or FR edge and the UFR corner.
  6. Expand one of the pairs to a 1x2x2 by adding one of the unsolved edges
  7. Solve - If you do turns without breaking blocks, the cube will solve itself.
