Qipper method

The Qipper Method is a 3×3 speedsolving method created by William Sallros in 2025.
The method was designed as a simplified Last Layer approach where the solver permutes the entire top layer while simultaneously permuting a single corner from another layer. This reduces the number of required algorithms compared to methods like Ribbon method and ZB, while still providing efficient solves with minimal regrips.
Qipper can be used as a standalone Last Layer system or integrated into other methods as an alternative to traditional PLL when specific corner positions arise. The method focuses on maintaining smooth turning flow and offers a unique ergonomic advantage when executed from the right-hand grip position.
The Steps
- EO-Harpoon: This is a unique step, and also a challenging one for beginners to learn, as Edge Orientation is a crucial part of it. You form your Harpoon by creating an EO-Arrow with an additional edge piece inserted — specifically, the FR edge. The empty cross-edge slot must be on the left side of the cube, so be sure to use the inspection time wisely to find the best starting position.
- Hybrid F2L: In this step you solve the first two layers except the FRD corner piece. The open slot and already oriented edges gives you the opportunity to do 3gen. For the right back pair you just solve it like a normal F2L case, but thanks to the oriented edges you will always get a nice case.
- OL5C: This is the first algorithm based step of the method, that orients all remaining corners. Most of the time it is 5 corners that needs to be oriented, but some times there is just four, in other words normal COLL cases.
- TTLL/PLL: This step permutes the last layer along with the front-right corner in the bottom layer. Depending on the outcome of OL5C, this step can sometimes reduce to a standard PLL case. If not, one of 72 algorithms—averaging around 14 moves and as few as 7—can be used to complete the solve.
