Qualifiers
The official Monkey League S3 qualifiers took place on January 9th and 10th. Luke Griesser and Patrick Ponce emerged victorious and will participate in the upcoming Season 3 starting on January 22nd.
The first qualifier took place on January 9th where Luke Griesser, who unfortunately exited Season 1 early due to injury, dominated the field, increasing his lead on the field even after he'd secured the victory. Asked about his performance, Luke said "I don't think I couldn't asked for a better one honestly, I feel like I did as well as anyone could have hoped." Luke is feeling "better than ever" after fully recovering from his injury and we look forward to seeing him in season 3!
The second qualifier took place the next morning on January 10th and saw Dylan Miller take an early lead over the field. As it went on, Patrick Ponce, the reigning U.S. National Champion, slowly gained ground and with around a third left to go he took the lead and increased it steadily to the finish. In the post match interview Patrick said, "I think I solved pretty poorly. I didn't warm up which was a pretty dumb idea, but as the match went on I got more warmed up and was able to get better solves." When asked about how he was feeling about his chances, Patrick said "honestly I'm pretty scared, the lineup is so good, I don't know how I'm gonna have any chance. But I'm going to try my hardest, I'm going to practice a lot." Patrick took 2 months off cubing last summer and has been struggling to get back into form, but looks to get in form by the start of the season!
