Luc van Laethem was a Belgian speedcuber. In 1982 he won the Belgian Cubing Championship, and finished twelfth in the World Championship.

In 1982 van Laethem was a 25-year-old student from Kraainem (near Brussels). He once performed a marathon solve of 100 Cubes in 54 minutes.[1] The Belgium national championship took place in April 1982. Erno Rubik himself attended the competition. Luc van Laethem won the contest by solving the cube in 33 seconds.[2]

The World Rubik's Cube Championship 1982 took place on June 5. Luc van Laethem finished in 12th place with a best time of 29.73 seconds in the third round. David Singmaster reports that he used a Corners first technique.[3]
