The Doug Li Method is a Rubik's cube speedsolving method developed by Doug Li.

Steps

Step 1

Complete the F2L minus one edge on the first layer. The way Doug Li completed this step was to have the F2L as the top two layers. So the missing edge would be on the U layer. The modern convention is to solve the F2L on the bottom two layers, so that would mean that the user builds the F2L minus one D layer edge. Doug Li had his own set of steps for building the F2L minus one edge. They are shown below.

  1. Solve the FL and BL edges
  2. Solve the UFL and UBL corners
  3. Solve the UF and UB edges
  4. Solve the 1x2x2 at either FR+UFR+UR or UR+UBR+BR
  5. Solve the remaining pair at either FR+UFR or BR+UBR

Step 2

Solve the remaining edge of the F2L while orienting the LL edges.

Step 3

Use COLL to solve the LL corners and preserve the orientation of the LL edges.

Step 4

Finish the cube using EPLL.
