The Jalvin Method is a Square-1 speed solving method created by Calvin Nielson in 2019. The method is focused on reducing PBL count while maintaining efficiency and lookahead.

The Steps

  • Cubeshape: The solver returns the puzzle back into its cubic shape
  • Lin block: The solver creates a Lin block by pairing 2 corners and 1 edge on the bottom. This will take 2 moves maximum.
  • Orient both layers (OBL): The solver orients the two layers while preserving the lin block, this can be done by first orienting corners and then orienting edges or by doing a single OBL algorithm.
  • Permutate both layers (PBL): The solver uses algorithms to solve the remaining pieces. Since the lin block is solved it reduces the amount of recognition needed.

Pros

  • Lookahead: The use of the lin block means the solver needs to keep track of fewer pieces than normal
  • Ease of Learning: Learning this method allows users to learn a significantly smaller set of PBL algorithms while maintaining efficiency
