Ryan Heise's Proposal of ZZ

The page mentions that Ryan Heise was the first to propose ZZ, but if you look at the original email in the Yahoo group(check the upload log for a photo), Heise specifically says that only F2L edges are oriented, while LL edges are left unoriented during "EOLine". Because of this, I'd recommend that while we mention that Heise designed a similar method, We don't change the proposer/date proposed, as the method Zbigniew proposed is slightly different. No one's changed the proposer yet, but I figured I might as well start the discussion before someone decides to change the proposer. ProStar (talk) 17:08, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

At the beginning of his post, he says "orient all edges right at the beginning" as part of his idea. He then references a video where someone coincidentally had all of their F2L edges oriented. He does this to talk about the benefit of LUR turning and it may have even been what led to him having the EOLine idea. Ryan Heise's idea is the same as what is now called the ZZ method. To orient all edges and either solve a line or a cross. Athefre (talk) 18:01, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Ok, I just reread the message and you're right, he just said LL edges weren't oriented in the example video. I think this falls into a similar case as CFOP did; being known as Fridrich but later changed to CFOP since other people helped out with the method. I do believe that the name should stay as ZZ though, as making a change would probably be hard and the name probably won't catch on, like Varasano never did ProStar (talk) 18:12, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Yeah. The community already knows this method as ZZ, so a change might be difficult. We'll keep it as ZZ and see what people eventually think. Athefre (talk) 18:22, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Maybe post a thread on SS about it? Not many people check the Wiki for new posts on talk pages, so the best place to find out what people think would probably be SS and maybe r/cubers ProStar (talk) 18:26, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
Ok, could be a good idea and get a discussion going. I will write something and make a thread on SS and r/cubers in a few hours. Athefre (talk) 18:38, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
The conclusion is that Ryan Heise isn't considered a proposer of the method. People often have similar ideas and even are the first to mention them. However, the important thing is if that person saw the full potential of the idea and developed it. In this case, Ryan Heise (as well as others in the early 2000s) had the idea and publicly discussed it. But he didn't develop the method. Zbigniew Zborowski had the idea and created a website with a large amount of information on why he thinks the method has potential. Athefre (talk) 21:26, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
