Information about the method
Proposer(s): Mitchell Stern, Timothy Sun
Proposed: 2008
Alt Names: SternSun method
Variants: none
No. Steps: 3
No. Algs: 109
Avg Moves: unknown
Purpose(s):

The SS method (short for Stern-Sun) is a 2x2 method invented by Mitchell Stern and Timothy Sun in 2008.

The SS method has three steps. In the first step, 3/4 of a face is solved. In the second step, the face is finished while simultaneously orienting the opposite face. Finally, both layers are permuted at once. Without counting reflections, there are 60 algorithms, including the 5 PBLs. Including reflections, it comes to 109 algorithms.

Trivia

"Stern" is the German word for star, making SS the "Star-Sun" method.
