Rotation

A rotation is a move in which the entire puzzle, usually a twisty puzzle, is turned, rather than more than 0 layers but less than the amount of layers on the puzzle.

A rotation on an NxNxN puzzle can be represented by x, y, or z along with or without a ' (prime) and/or a 2, similarly to layer turns, to represent counterclockwise turns and double turns respectively. An x represents a rotation as if one is doing an R turn that turns all 3 layers; a y represents a rotation like a 3-layer wide U turn; and a z represents a rotation like a 3-layer wide F turn.

On nearly all twisty puzzles, rotations can be represented by [r], [u], or [f] (and, much less frequently as they are generally useless, [l], [d], and [b]), along with a ' (prime) and/or a 2, similarly to layer turns, to represent counterclockwise turns and double turns respectively. A [r] rotation is a rotation in which the puzzle is rotated as if an R turn was done to the entire puzzle, and a similar concept is applied to [u] and [f].
