Order
From Speedsolving.com Wiki
The term order refers to how many solvable pieces are on a twisty puzzle. If a cube is high-order, it has many solvable pieces; for instance, a 9x9x9 cube. If a cube is low-order, it has few solvable pieces; for instance, a 2x2x2 cube. Furthermore, if a cube is odd-ordered, it can be a 3x3x3, 5x5x5, 7x7x7, etc. and an even-ordered cube can be a 2x2x2, 4x4x4, 6x6x6, etc.
The definition of "order" is not always consistent. Its definition may vary in special cases. For example, an X2 is one order higher than the X-Cube, and an X-Cube is one order higher than an X-Cube 2; the two comparisons have two different kinds of solvable pieces increased in quantity, but still follow a relatively similar "X-shaped" concept.
Examples of Order
- a 4x4x4 cube is one order higher than a Rubik's Cube; a 5x5x5 cube is one order higher than a 4x4x4 cube; and so on
- a gigaminx is one order higher than a megaminx
- a 33x33x33 cube is the highest order NxNxN cube physically created as of 28 January 2018; whilst a 2x2x2 cube is the lowest possible order functional NxNxN cube
- the X-Cube is one order lower than the X2
