Mystery puzzle

A mystery puzzle is an unofficial event, featuring a secret puzzle, held as a for-fun event at official competitions. They are usually timed with the Stackmat Timer.

Mystery puzzles were started by Tyson Mao and the Caltech Cube Club in 2006. While briefly hosting the Sunday Contest in 2004, Tyson included one for-fun event each week. This became the inspiring idea for mystery events.
