Look ahead, the art of seeing what comes next, one of the most important components in advanced speedsolving, in any method.

When solving a step, try to look for the pieces that are needed for the next step while turning.

Different levels of lookahead

Beginner's Lookahead :

  • Planning Cross is the easiest level of lookahead, it is advised to inspect the cross on every single solve.

This can be planned in inspection by predicting the moves that will solve the cross in inspection. Intermediate Lookahead :

  • Planning Cross with First Pair is a fundamental skill to achieve sub-15 and sub-10 averages, but it is slightly harder.

This can be done be tracking a corner and edge and see what happened to it during cross. Advanced Lookahead :

  • Planning Cross with First pair and beyond can mean the difference between a sub 10 solves and a sub 8,7 solves.

Firstly, you'll have to be confident with planning first pair and can do it every solve, the same technique can be applied here, just track a second corner-edge pair, and see what happened during cross with the addition of first pair.
