A pretty pattern is an aesthetic state of a puzzle. Some cubers create and share pretty patterns for amusement.
Examples of Pretty Patterns
3x3x3 Cube
M2 E2 S2 = Creates a checkerboard pattern on each face.
M S M' S' = Switches Centers around.
2x2x2 Cube
F2 R2 U2 F2 = Creates a stripey pattern on each face.
F2 R2 F2 = Creates stripes on 4 of the faces.
Other Puzzles
For some puzzles (eg. Megaminx), the puzzle needs to be directly soved into the pattern, as no algorithms are known.
