Claim to Fame: Petrus method

Lars Petrus is a Swedish cuber who is primarily well-known for inventing a popular 3x3 method (the Petrus method).

Inventor of Petrus method

Lars invented his method in the early 1980s, at a time when almost everyone else was using a basic layer-by-layer or corners first method. His method is very intuitive and based on building around a corner, so as to have as many free sides as possible for most of the solve. Because this approach can be very efficient, it is very popular for Fewest Moves solving.

Official Results

Lars won the 1981 Swedish championships using his method, and thus became the Swedish representation for the World Rubik's Cube Championship 1982, where he placed 4th with a best time of 24.57. Lars's current best times in competition for the 3x3 event are a 16.64 second single and a 20.48 second average of 5.

As for Fewest Moves solving, Lars won that event at the Rubik's World Championship 2005 with a 38-move solution in the final round, making him the World Champion of fewest moves between 2005 and 2007. Lars also holds the distinction of having broken the European Record for One-Handed solving several times in 2004 and 2005.
