Kevin Hays is an American speedcuber born in Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, Canada. Several months later, his friend David Adams would be born in the same hospital. After their families moved together to Seattle, Washington at the tender age of 5, they began the adventure of a lifetime. These two friends always had a keen interest in puzzles, but the Rubik's cube did not interest Hays until his 7th grade year at Maywood Middle School. Adams sprang the challenge of solving the cube on Hays and he quickly was able to conquer it with the help of online solutions. Hays quickly became faster at solving the Rubik's cube and was able to claim an extremely lucky record of about 26 seconds or something, I don't really remember.

His interest in cubing waned and he did not begin to competitively solve until his good friend David invited him on a church retreat to Whistler. Whilst on the trip, our intrepid heroes met Kyle Stevens, who taught the duo how to solve F2L. What began in Canada 15 years earlier began once more as the boys practiced this advanced technique.

Kevin and Adams did not return to Canada for another year, where they competed in Vancouver Open 2009. While Hays did not win any individual events, he placed 3rd in the 4x4, 5x5, and 7x7 events while placing 2nd in the 6x6.

To be continued...

He is most well known as a "big cuber," someone who specializes in solving mainly cubes 4x4-7x7. His favorite puzzle is the 6x6 and currently has the world record mean of 3 (2:02.13), and he also has the world record for single solve (1:54.81).
