Kenichi Ueno (or Ken`ichi Ueno; 上野健一) was a Japanese speedcuber. In 1981 he won the Japanese Cubing Championship, and finished fifth in the World Championship in 1982.
Kenichi Ueno came from Tomakomai (near Sapporo City).[1] The Japanese Championship involving "more than 100 veteran cubists" took place in Tokyo, October 11, 1981. Kenichi Ueno, then an 18-year-old student, won the Japanese title in the adult division by "putting three cubes in order in 2 minutes, 8.1 seconds". He said afterwards: "I average 26 seconds when I use my cube, and I think I'll be pretty competitive at the world championships."[2]
At the first World Rubik's Cube Championship 1982 in Budapest (5 June) he finished in fifth place with a best time (in round 3) of 24.91 seconds. David Singmaster reports that he used a Corners First method.[3]
