5x5x5 Blindfolded is an official WCA event requiring one to inspect a 5x5x5 Cube and once the cube is fully memorized, solve it without sight. The final time includes the time it takes to inspect and to solve added together. The solver may not have any view of the cube during the solving stage. In order to ensure that the solver is unable to see the cube during the solving phase, the judge typically places a sheet of paper between the solver's blindfold and the cube.
History
- Few people have competed in 5BLD and had a successful solve compared to other events, with only ~798 competitors ever successfully getting a 5BLD single (as of 2 April, 2024).
- During the 2023 World Championships, Hill Pong Yong Feng won with a world record single of 2:18.78, beating his own world record by 0.29 seconds. Adrian Debski came in second with a 3:15.72 NR single, and Stanley Chapel got third with a 3:19.14 single. According to rumors, Stanley Chapel got a pop on one of his 5BLD attempts, causing him to DNF the solve at the low 2 minute range, possibly DNFing out of world record single as well.
The top 5BLD solvers today are Stanley Chapel, Kaijun Lin, Graham Siggins, Tom Nelson, Hill Pong Yong Feng, Ezra Hirschi, and Adrian Debski.

- Stanley Chapel currently holds the 5BLD single world record with a time of 2:04.41, set at Virginia Championship 2023. Hill Pong Yong Feng has the second fastest 5BLD single of 2:18.78.
- The 5BLD mean world record is currently held by Stanley Chapel with a mean of 2:27.63, set in 2019. The next fastest competitor is Kaijun Lin, who has a mean of 2:49.17.
