Look ahead
Look ahead, the art of seeing what comes next, one of the most important components in advanced speedsolving, in any method.
When solving a step, try to look for the pieces that are needed for the next step while turning.
Making Lookahead easier by planning in inspection
- This is so that, you already know what you are going to do and thinking about what to do after the step that you have planned.
Why you need to plan things during the inspection:
- If you don't plan the cross or pairs (CFOP) in inspection, you will have to think about what you have to do during the solve, which will lead to pauses during the solve.
Beginner's Lookahead :
- Planning Cross is the easiest level of lookahead, it is advised to inspect the cross on every single solve.
This can be planned in inspection by predicting the moves that will move around to solve the cross.
Intermediate Lookahead :
- Planning Cross with First Pair is a fundamental skill to achieve sub-15 and sub-10 averages, but it is slightly harder.
This can be done by tracking a corner and edge and see what happened to it during the cross.
Advanced Lookahead :
- Planning Cross with First pair and beyond can mean the difference between a sub 10 solves and a sub 8,7 solves.
Firstly, you'll have to be confident with planning first pair and can do it every solve, the same technique can be applied here, just track a second corner-edge pair, and see what happened during cross with the addition of the first pair.
but this is how you make look ahead flow easier when you plan it, unplanned look ahead is done by tracking a corner, sometimes an edge during a solve.
