Permutation of both layers

Permutation of both layers, abbreviated as PBL, is a step used in a number of corners first methods (2x2x2), for example the Ortega method and the Guimond method. In CF PBL has got five cases (6 including the solved case). Normally the cases are named after the number of "pairs" that are already correctly permuted; 0+0, 1+0, 1+1, 2+0 and 2+1. (the cases 0+1, 0+2 and 1+2 are the same as the opposite ones if you do a x2 or a z2 orientation). Algorithms for 2x2x2/CF permutation of both layers can be found at the CxLL pages (the grey cases in the topmost line).

It is of course possible to do it for any type of method and then permute not only corners but the whole layers. But it is not used in any speedcubing method (the main reason is that it is hundreds of cases).

For Square-1 PBL is used in most methods but then it is divided into two steps; PCBL (corners) and PEBL (edges).
