Although the recommendation in that source was to place the bottom layer corner before solving the corner and edge together, it wasn't always a requirement. The process was the same as modern CFOP F2L pairing. This can be seen in the publication "Solving the Hungarian Cube" where a large table is provided that contains algorithms for all corner and edge situations. Among these situations are all of the cases where the corner is on the upper layer in any orientation and the edge is in any position and orientation. "Throwing and Catching" was the name that Conway, Benson, and Seal gave that specific process. Given the fact that it is the same process as CFOP F2L, corner an upper/bottom layer and edge in any position and orientation, I wouldn't call this a new method. It is instead the earliest known proposal of F2L pairing. Check out the [https://sites.google.com/view/methodlibrary/3x3-methods/cfop Method Library] for more information and images. :Ohhhh, I haven't seen that before, do you mean that huge Table 1?. That's interesting. I have long wondered about this because I knew of the two mentions in Singmaster, and only the thing I could ever find about it in the end was the summary account in the ''Rubik's Cubic Compendium''. In that it's presented in two steps: a 'throw' step with 12 algorithms (mostly very short). The 'catch' step has 24 algorithms. I was going to ask about it on the F2L talk page ([[Talk:First Two Layers]]), but something is broken, and I couldn't create the Talk page, so I thought oh well I'll create a "throw and catch" page and see what happens.
