The Ortega-Split Method is a 2x2 speedsolving method. It is named after the Ortega Method, and is in active development.

Just like in the Guimond Method, a face can be made with opposite stickers.
The first step of this method can be solved with 1 algorithm, and can be 1 looked, or 2 looked. 2-Look CDF involves intuitively building one D face and then using OLL (2x2x2) to solve the U face. 1-Look CDF involves using one algorithm to solve both U and D faces simultaneously, and this is very efficient and surprisingly does not require ~1.7 thousand algorithms. The next step is to correct both U and D faces, this can be solved intuitively or with one DFC algorithm. Finally, both layers are permuted simultaneously with PBL, which only has five possible cases. In total, there are 12 algorithms to learn (11 without reflections).
The Ortega-Split Method is a 2x2 speedsolving method. It is named after the Ortega Method, and is in active development.

Using Ortega as a 2x2x2 method first involves solving one face intuitively, whereas methods like layer by layer solve the entire layer. The next step is to orient the opposite face, which can be done with more efficient algorithms than on 3x3. Finally, both layers are permuted simultaneously with PBL, which only has five possible cases. In total, there are 12 algorithms to learn (11 without reflections).

For the first face, without colour neutrality, the average move count in HTM is 3.97, and no cases require more than 5 turns.

The case shown in the picture in the method information box is known as Sune, one of the OLL cases.
