* There are 4.3*10^19 possible configurations. That's 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 ways a cube can be scrambled. To give you an idea of how big that number is, if there were one cube scrambled for every legal position, they would cover the surface of the earth about 150 times!
* Number of moves to solve
** All positions can be solved using 22 or less moves. There are positions (such as the superflip) that are known to require 20 moves to solve optimally.
Here we present some ideas as to how to break 15 seconds consistently.

Using the Fridrich Method
Reaching 15-second averages may be obtained via the following tips -- to be performed in chronological order.

# Beginner's Method
#* First learn how to solve the Rubik's cube using a tutorial, such as one in the Beginner's Methods section.
#** Tip: Solve with your cross on the bottom! It will help you out later.
#* Learn how to lubricate your cube.
#* Use a timer, such as an online timer or a PC timer to see your progression.
# Learn 2-look OLL algorithms.
# Learn 2-look PLL algorithms.
# Learn to do the First Two Layers (F2L) efficiently.
#* Use a tutorial, such as Badmephisto's YouTube Tutorial on F2L.
#* Your times will temporarily get worse, but after a few days of practicing, they will rapidly become better.
#* Practice F2L -- practice a lot. F2L is undeniably the most important part.
# Learn full (1-look) PLL.
#* 21 algorithms to learn.
#* At this point, consider buying a DIY Cube. Assuming look-ahead is good, focusing on speed might be important now.
# Learn full (1-look) OLL.
#* 57 algorithms. Don't learn them too quickly, otherwise recognition will be impeded upon. But don't learn them too slowly; try to learn consistently.
# Look into advanced F2L techniques, such as the extended cross (also known as X-cross), or other extensions to the Fridrich Method, such as COLL for suitable LL cases..
A very popular category of Rubik's cube software is the playable 3D Rubik's Cube (animated cube), often implemented as a Java applet, which has a long history. The first version of which many current programs are derived was made by Michael Shubart. After that, Karl Hornell made modifications in his version, which again was used by Lars Petrus on his website. Probably the most widely used is RubikPlayer by Werner Randelshofer.
Megaminx Speedsolving Methods
Contrary to popular belief, the Megaminx is not substantially harder than a Rubik's Cube to solve. The Megaminx can be solved up until the last face exactly like F2L on a normal Rubik's Cube. Generally, a solver will start with a "star" on one side, analogous to the cross on a Rubik's Cube. Then, corners and edges are paired and placed exactly like that of Fridrich F2L until only the last face needs to be solved. From here there are several ways to go about solving the last face. Many algorithms used on a Rubik's Cube can be applied to the last layer of the Megaminx. For example, Sune (R U R' U R U'2 R') cycles three edges, and F R U R' U' F' and its inverse orient edges just like that of a Rubik's Cube.

Description
This page contains descriptions of different lubricants and suggestions for use. Suggested usage of lube includes disassembling a cube to insert the lube, applying, and turning the cube to work it in. It is also recommended that you do not apply lube to stiffer cubes, as this can sometimes make them even harder to turn.

Silicon-Based
Silicon-based lubricants are a highly popular and effective way to lubricate cubes.

Jig-A-Loo
Used by many cubers, this lubricant works very well. However, it can melt plastic temporarily, so it is recommended that you completely disassemble your cube to lubricate it, and that you let the pieces dry well before reassembly.

Rubik's Lube
This is the lube that comes in a syringe-like container when you order from Rubiks.com.
* Rubik's Cube Lube

CRC Silicon Spray
CRC silicon spray has been used by many cubers. This is a very good lubricant to use. It will dry out soon, but works well.

Petroleum-Based
These include lubricants such as vaseline or WD-40. It is Strongly suggested you use these with caution, as petroleum and petroleum distillates speed the aging of plastic, and may dissolve the plastic.

Vaseline
Goopy and well known, this is not the best lube. It may eat at the plastic and gum up, making the cube harder to turn.

WD-40
Known for damaging cubes and making them harder to turn, this does not act as a lubricant for the plastic at all. It is recommended you do not use this.

Other
Other types of lubricants

Cooking No-stick Spray
Yes, PAM. Not necessarily the cleanest or best thing to use, it works nonetheless. It does not eat at the plastic and can be just as effective as shock oil on a loose cube. It is recommended you clean out your cube frequently if you use this.
