This is a vey reliable and durable magic. It is very light which provides great performance and is much thinner than the rubiks brand. You could place your very own rings in the magic by unstring the magic and replacing the current ringsand then restringing. The plastic is high quality and wont snap while solving roughly. Easy to fold and very porable, breaks in very quickly. Very reccomended magic

The MF8 Gigaminx is the best mass produced megaminx in the market today against the Cube4You Gigaminx which is known to be terrible. Turning is pretty bad out of box and is barely fingertrickable. Out of box the tensions are set at its maximum, after loosening it and lubrication and a little bit of breaking in the performance would rise greatly and live up to its name. After broken in the gigaminx fingertricks easily and barely locks up. The inner layers dont get caught unlike the terrible Cube4You. It has a nice clicky feeling when turning and feels study when holding it. Great addition to a collection or for fun. Get this you won't regret it.

A lubricant (or lube) is a material which can be put in a puzzle to make it easier to turn or smoother. This page contains descriptions of different lubricants and specific suggestions for how to use them. In general, to lube a cube, you should apply the lubricant either by removing one piece and spraying it in, or by disassembling the cube completely and coating the pieces in lubricant. After lube is applied, it is usually best to not time a solve immediately, but rather give the lube a few minutes to work in. It is also recommended that you do not apply lube to very stiff cubes, as this can sometimes make them even harder to turn.

The following two general terms are used to characterise the friction effects of a lubricant:
* Static Friction - force required to initiate a turn.
* Dynamic Friction - resistance felt during the turn.
The range of lubricants available affect each of these aspects in differing degrees. For example, silicone oils tend to reduce static friction, while increasing dynamic friction.

Silicon-Based
Silicon-based lubricants are a highly popular and effective way to lubricate cubes.
Silicone sprays leave a smooth coat of lube over the cube's plastic to make it glide smoothly over other surfaces, thus making your cube turn smoother.

Lubix Cube
A high viscosity pure silicone oil fluid. Very Effective and has risen to one of the most popular lubricants on sale. The lubricant is a little expensive but only very little is needed and it is said to last a very long time.

The same silicone oil (dimethylsiloxane fluid) could be found at most local hobby stores with a much cheaper price, though missing Lubix's syringe.

Rubik's Lube
This is the lube that comes in a syringe-like container when you order from Rubiks.com. It can be found at

Rubiks Original Lube at lightake.com .

Maru Lubricant
A white, milk like liquid. Works very well and is very popular. Huge performance increase on the spot even with only 1 or 2 drops.The lubricant tends to dry out quickly during a weeks peroid. Very Cheap and lasts for over 3 months per bottle.

Cubelube.com
This is the exact same lube as sold on Rubiks.com, only with different packaging and a different site. The price is also cheaper than Rubiks.com; this particular lube is found at cubelube.com.

Jig-A-Loo
Used by many cubers, this lubricant works very well. However, it can melt plastic temporarily, so it is recommended that you completely disassemble your cube to lubricate it, and that you let the pieces dry well before reassembly. Available in the US and Canada. @see jigaloo.com, Speedsolving.com: The TRUTH about Jig-A-Loo

CRC Silicone Spray
CRC silicon spray has been used by many cubers. This is a very good lubricant to use. It will dry out soon, but works well. It is known to eat cubes too, so use with caution. Available at Wal Mart in the US and Canada. Available at some hardware stores in Australia.

Tableau Dry Lube
A silicone-based spray lubricant, popular in the UK. Cheap to buy and often gets good reviews. eBay.co.uk is usually the best place to buy it online. Like most spray lubricants, its propellant can cause temporary melting of plastic, so it is recommended that the cube is disassembled to allow the lube to dry before use.
@see tableauproducts.com

Shock Oil
Available worldwide, this comes in a range of viscosities and is 100% pure silicone oil. Mainly sold for radio controlled car shock absorbers. Available from racingstate.com in wt30 (UK only), or towerhobbies.com in a range of viscosities including wt10, wt20 and wt30 (shipping is expensive, but available worldwide).

Differential Oil
Differential oils of very high viscosity have been used successfully by some cubers. 50,000wt oils such as this one are reported to produce very good results. The right quantity is a small drop per cube, and applying more may make a cube slower and sticky. These oils are available in toy shops as well as on eBay.
Maplin Silicone Grease with PTFE
Works well on DIY cubes, and is easy to find in the UK. Comes in a spray can with extension tube for lazy lubing. @see maplin.co.uk

Armour All original protectant
It is silicone based, and pretty good, but sometimes causes the cube to gunk up when overlubed. It is recommended that you wipe off excess lubricant after using. @see armorall.com

Other silicone lubricants
* W5 Silicone Oil - available from LIDL stores across Europe
* 3 in 1 silicone spray - Takes a while to dry. Available in UK hardware stores such as Halfords. It also leaves a very sticky feel to it, even after it has dried.
* Wynn's Silicone Lube - From 'A1', a UK motoring spares store.
* Rapide silicone spray - Available from UK stores.
* Gyrolon Universal Silikonspray - Available in the german dicounter ALDI
* OK/Q8 SILKON SPRAY, avaiable in Sweden, much like CRC but does not dry out as fast.

Petroleum-Based
These include lubricants such as vaseline, WD-40, or Liquid Wrench. It is recommended that you do not use these, but if you really want to, use them with caution, as petroleum and petroleum distillates speed the aging of plastic, and may dissolve the plastic resulting in destruction of the pieces and the internal mechanism. Excessive uses of these lubricants often lead to the center mechanism breaking apart completely. Some, however, have reported success using petroleum based lubricants to speed up breaking in of new cubes. It would be best if you have a tight cube (Rubik's brand) to lube it will a petroleum based jelly for about a month. Then take it all a part and cleaning it and use a silicone base lubricant.

Vaseline
Goopy and well known, this is not the best lube. Being a petroleum based lubricant it will speed the deterioration of the pieces as well as the internal mechanism. Some people recommend using vaseline for a while to wear down the inside of the cube (almost like breaking in the cube) before using other lubricants.

WD-40
Known for damaging cubes by wearing the pieces in and making them harder to turn, this does not actually act as a lubricant for the plastic at all. However, there have been some success stories of WD-40 being used on cubes and making them smoother.
It is recommended you do not use this. If you must, however, you should wash or wipe it off after about half an hour.

Liquid Wrench
Even though Liquid Wrench says Silicone Spray on the can, it still contains petroleum distillates. The lubricant also has a very petroleum-like smell and will stay there. Liquid Wrench is not odorless. Do not use this. It contains less than 5% of silicone.

Miscellaneous Other Lubricants
Cooking No-stick Spray
Yes, PAM. Not necessarily the cleanest or best thing to use, it works nonetheless. It will slowly eat the plastic but not nearly as fast as petroleum based products. It is recommended you clean out your cube frequently if you use this.

White Lithium Grease
There are some mixed results of this lubricant, but it does work fairly well. The cube will have a sticky feeling after using it, though it wears off after some breaking-in.

Furniture Polish
Some furniture polishes such as Mr Sheen and Shine-Up Polish contain silicone and can be a cheap and widely available lubricant. Reviews are mixed with some reporting a positive result, while others aren't convinced.

Graphite Powder
A dry, oil-free solution. Reduces the 'sticky' feeling, but causes cube to turn less smoothly.

Guojia is a Chinese DIY 3x3 speedcube brand. Founded around 2004, it was the first non-Rubik DIY brand on the market, and have since produced numerous speedcube models featuring innovative design improvements. Some significant designs are placing tracks on the cubies to reduce turning friction, reduced inner radius of the mechanism to increase tolerance, and symmetrical contacting surfaces on the edge pieces (most 3x3 cubes have edge pieces with a hollow side).

Originally know as Type A, their products were renamed Alpha in 2009. There are two main series of Alpha speedcubes:
* Mainstream Alpha: usually the guinea pigs for new designs. Some of the significant features include tracks to reduce friction, and lightweight cubicles.
* Sealed Alpha: usually referred as "NEW" Alpha, "Alpha (roman numeral)-f", or "Alpha (roman numeral)-SV". These speedcubes aims at even friction between cubies and full contacting surface area on the pieces.

The Haiyan's Cube (Alpha Haiyan) and other Guojia speedcubes (mini 4.6cm&5.2cm, Alpha Common) are not part of these two subgroup. They are individual models in addition to the main series.
Also called 'Alpha I', or the 'Old Type-A'.

This is the very first Chinese DIYkit on the market other than the Rubik's DIY. This cube is quite heavy compared to the Rubik's and other Chinese DIYs.

At first it is called the "Rubik's Clone DIY", and then when the Type C shows up it is called "Thick R-clone", along with Type C being called the "Thin R-clone". Later on 大烟头 (creater of Dayan DIY and Crazy 4x4 series) proposed the naming system of calling them by the order in which they are presented to the market, represented with the Chinese celestial stem characters (甲,乙,丙,丁, etc) and each with the prefix 國 (guo, or "Country"), meaning 國產, or domestic product. Later, the manufactorer regestered 國甲 (guojia) as their trademark.

The turning feels "smooth and sturdy", and could be an excellent speedcube.

Some distunguishing features are:
* Dull yellow core
* Screws with fine threads and small screwhead.
* Large and small washers
* Center caps similar to the old FLAT Rubik's DIY

There have been several differnt molds for this cube, and while they are essencially identical, some of the colors are discountinued and could be sold for a very high price.
It moves similarly to a Jacob's Ladder, except in two dimensions instead of one. There are two competition events for these type of puzzles (Magic, with 8 tiles, and Master Magic, with 12 tiles), both of which involve solving the puzzle from a specific start into a specific solved state.

This original rubiks magic brand is somewhat thicker than the lingao and has a different colour scheme than regular magics. These are rarely produced and are quite rare to be found in regular stores. The performance is quite good, has a good feel to it. The magic is rather harder to tangle than regular magics because the slits are much bigger making them bend to a rather further extent/

The Megaminx is a puzzle in the shape of a dodecahedron that was first produced by Uwe Meffert, who has the rights to some of the patents. Each of the 12 sides consists of one pentagonal fixed center, five triangular edge pieces and five corner pieces. The corner and edge pieces are arranged in a five-pointed star pattern. A variant where the cuts are a little deeper, so that each face has a five-pointed star on it, is known as the Hungarian Supernova, but since it is similar these names are often interchanged.

The way the Megaminx functions is very similar to the 3x3x3: it has fixed centers, edges with two orientations, and corners with three orientations, and each turn moves the same number of edges and corners. Because of this it can be (and usually is) solved with a variant on a 3x3x3 method, either by placing edges and then corner/edge pairs (like the Fridrich method) or simply building a series of blocks (like the Petrus method). It is also possible to finish using some OLL and PLL algorithms. The biggest difference from the 3x3 is that slice moves are not possible and therefore methods that solves edges preserving corners are having much longer algorithms.
The Square-1 (or Cube 21) is a cubic twisty puzzle, with irregular cubies. It has only three axes of rotation - the top and bottom faces, and the entire right half of the puzzle. The puzzle consists of two halves, each with corner and edge pieces indistinguishable to the core. The top and bottom layers consist of triangular edge pieces and quadrilateral corner pieces, and the middle layer consists of two trapezoidal pieces. This puzzle does not have fixed center, and when scrambled, shifts to a random shape. The object is to return it to its cubic state as well as to make each side one solid color.
Rubik's Twist, usally Snake, is a folding puzzle. The Snake was probably the second most popular twisty in the 80's, only second to the cube itself.

Speedsolving a snake you go from a strait bar to the 'ball' shape (truncated octahedra). Advanced solvers does this in 3-4 grips rendering times in the range of 2-5 seconds. Solving piece by piece is pretty much slower and gives times in the range 10-15 seconds. The unofficial world record is held by Kadir Sertcali of Sweden and the average is 2.92 seconds.

Out of the box they are not so fast, a speed snake needs breaking in and/or sanding (eventually they get too loose and does not stay in shape when put on the surface).
The reason for the name is because the original type did not have stickers in diffrent colours, instead it had dots looking like the ones on domino tiles on the U and D faces that numbered the pieces from 1 to 9. Recently produced dominos have stickes just like any other cube. This is simly solved similar to the 3x3 but without F2l

Brands/makes of cube dimensions 4x4x4 and above.

4x4x4
There are ten major brands of 4x4x4 cubes used by speedcubers.
* Rubik's Revenge
* Eastsheen 4x4x4
* Meffert's 4x4x4
* QJ 4x4x4
* Maru 4x4x4
* X-Cube 4x4x4
* Dayan+MF8 4x4x4
* Shengshou 4x4x4
* Ghosthand 4x4x4
* Lanlan 4x4x4
However, the Rubik's Revenge 4x4x4 cube, manufactured by the Rubik's company, is not preferred by many speedcubers as compared to the Meffert's, QJ, Maru, and Eastsheen brand 4x4x4 cubes.

5x5x5
Until recently, there were two major brands of 5x5x5, but the V-cube brand has made its way into the speedcubing community by providing an extremely good 5x5x5 which is almost unanimously considered the best brand by far. The following brands are available in 5x5x5 cubes:

* Professor's Cube (Rubik's)
* Eastsheen 5x5x5
* V-Cube 5
* Meffert's 5x5x5
* Ghosthand 5x5x5
* YJ 5x5

6x6 and 7x7
V-Cube are currently the only manufacturer of 6x6 and 7x7 cubes.
Also called 'GuoYou', Type D cubes ship fully assembled and stickered. The color scheme varies, but generally they are stickered in either the Japanese color scheme or a mirrored version of the Western color scheme. The original stickers are generally not as robust as most vinyl stickers, which is why Cube4You ships a set of better stickers with each cube. Recent Type D orders came stickered with nicer vinyl stickers(similar to storebought stickers) in the Western color scheme. Type D cubes rarely pop, unlike Type A cubes. They also are decent at cutting corners. The argument as to which is better for speedcubing, however, has not been settled. Some people recommend replacing the Type D core with a Type A core. It is also recommended to try a hybrid of this cube with Type C cubies.

Different Types
There are two different types of Type-D cubes. Generation one Type-D's come in many different colors: Pink, Green and Black and White. The generation 2 Type-D's, also known as Type-D II are white. The stickers that come with the Type-D II are somewhat textured and do not peel off easily. The spinning is very smooth, rarely locks up, cuts corners but sometimes pops if spinning too violently. Each cubie is fully closed and has caps that rarely fall off. If they fall off, to fix it, just simply place the cap back on and push down. There are many types of YJ D-II type cubes produced such as the new Finhop 3x3 and the crazy foot cube. All have similar performance and very good quality

Type C cubes are somewhat choppy, loud and very fast, faster than Type A and less prone to lockups than Type D. This may be the fastest non-hybrid cube. Some say that it is a replica of the Rubik's DIY, but various improvements on the design have been made. The older verson have plastic washers and center caps that falls off easily; the current verson have metal washers and sturdy caps. Many speedcubers use this type.
Type-C (v1.5), and Type-C (Retooled)
Essentially the same cube, but with slightly modified center piece which allows easier removal of the cap. The retooled verson have indents on the two opposite corner of the center, and the v1.5 have centers similar to the Japanese Speedcube Kit.

Mini-C
At 50mm, this is the largest of the Mini 3x3x3's. Compared to regular sized cubes of 57mm, on paper its not a large amount smaller, but it certainly feels a fair bit smaller in your hands. For a mini cube it performs extremely well, with some speedcubers actually using it as their main cube. If you have small hands and find normal cubes just a little too large, then this slightly smaller cube could be ideal. This cube also makes an excellent travel cube, as it fits fairly well into pockets and still allows full use of fingertricks.

The Skewb, Skewb Diamond and Skewb Ultimate are all puzzles built on the same central mechanism : a 4-legged core with four out of eight similar pieces attached to it (and the other pieces free to move around it). Since these puzzles all function in the same way and only differ in their shape, they can be considered shape modifications of each other. This also means that pieces from any of the Skewb variants are compatible and can be interchanged. For example, two of Meffert's new puzzles, the 3D Skewb and the Polymorphix, are made by swapping the corner pieces of a Skewb and a Skewb Ultimate.

All of these puzzles can be solved with similar methods, although each one has a different set of pieces which must be oriented (for example, in a Skewb, the centers can be rotated freely without making the puzzle unsolved).

Skewb
The Skewb is a cube-shaped puzzle. It consists of 6 center pieces and 8 corner pieces (four of which are attached to the central core). Unlike the Rubik's cube, which turns around faces, the Skewb turns around axes that go through its corners. It is a deep-cut puzzle - ie. each cut goes through the absolute center of the puzzle, and exactly half of the puzzle changes with each turn.

This puzzle was originally called the Pyraminx Cube by Uwe Meffert, but Douglas Hofstadter suggested the name "Skewb", and it has been called that ever since.

Skewb Diamond
The Skewb Diamond is a octahedral modification of the Skewb. The Skewb Diamond has 6 corners (corresponding to the centers of the Skewb) and 8 centers (corresponding to the corners of the Skewb). Therefore, it can be made by truncating each corner of a regular Skewb and extending each center into a square pyramid.

Skewb Ultimate
The Skewb Ultimate is the dodecahedral version of the Skewb. The Skewb Ultimate has 6 of one type of piece and 8 of another type, corresponding to the Skewb's pieces, but the way they are cut is more complicated. This is the most difficult of these three puzzles, since in the Skewb Ultimate every piece must be correctly oriented for the puzzle to be solved.
2x2x2 Cube
The LanLan 2x2 has a Spring/screw structure which provides extreme corner cutting. It can corner cut a whole 3x3 cubie at maximum. It can also reverse corner cut which is a feature uncommon to 2x2 cubes. The speed of the LanLan is perfect for a 2x2 speedcube, more so than the 2x2 ghosthand which has a greater speed but overshoots. Internal popping is very rare if the cube hasnt been dismantled before. If you dismantle it the cube becomes more prone to internal popping. Some cubes say that the lanlan is terrible out of box but after breaking in or a few 10 solves its performance improves greatly

4x4x4 Cube
This cube is a very cheap and also has a high quality build.
Being similar to the QJ 4x4, this item does feel faster out of the box. It is a good size for a 4x4 and has a ball core like the QJ and Rubik's brand. If lubricated and broken in, this item will be a smooth and fast turning 4x4!

LanLan Skewb
This skewb's turning is very nice and is easily controllable. Because of a special mechanism, when you turn this puzzle it will click into place. This is extremely important and useful. One of the most common skewbs out there, superb quality plastic and stability. Very recommended skewb.
