Lock-up happens when layers of the puzzle get out of alignment.

Less severe lock-ups can be fixed by realigning the layers.

More severe lock-ups cause parts of the puzzle to be twisted in unnatural ways, creating gaps and causing the entire puzzle to be stuck.

A pop is when the puzzle you are solving pops open (one piece or multiple pieces pop out) during a solve. This may be caused from multiple reasons. Some include: The tensions being too loose, or the puzzle just being bad.

If a pop occurs during your solve you can choose to reassmble it if not serious, or make your time a DNF if serious ( i.e like a popped Eastsheen 5x5).

An Explosion is a severe pop that results a significant portion of the puzzle to fall apart. Sometimes the puzzle may even fall apart in its entirety.
