As a Rubik's Cube artist, I've been experimenting with cube mosaics for over 5 years — including flipped and corner mosaics, color replacements, giant mosaics, and more. Among all techniques, dual-sided mosaics are the most exciting to me.
In 2020, I came up with the idea of mirror dual-sided inverse color mosaics (MDSI), where the back side of the mosaic resembles the reverse side of a carpet or tapestry. I began developing a system for creating MDSI patterns on cubes. This methods helped me to set a Guinness WR with Largest dual sided rotating puzzle cube mosaic (pattern).
As a Rubik’s ambassador (in 2020-2022), I also created the first guide for simple 2-color patterns. Here is a video demonstrating the concept.
Initially, the algorithms were quite complex. But later, in collaboration with Tomas Rokicki (known for discovering the God Number), I optimized the method and revised my guide — which is now available for use.
I continued developing my system and created a method for 3-color MDSI patterns. You can downlod a guide from my website.
I realized that full-color MDSI patterns were also possible, as the symmetry of the cube allows to do it. I went on with my research and developed a method that makes it possible to splve any dual-sided pattern without using any software tools. In July 2025, at the BRIDGES conference on mathematics and art in Eindhoven, I plan to present my system.
Here are examples of MDSI mosaics from my recent exhibition RUBICON
