A few months back, a friend of mine set up an RS3M 2020 that I modded simply with cubicle strong magnets and CH magnetic core. It turned beautifully, and I set my current PR single of 3x3 with it. In recent weeks though, its gotten slower and gummier and dirty. I seeked a new 3x3. I tried many different 3x3 cubes, including the GAN 14, Weilong V9, YS3M, etc. A few were decent, but nowhere at the level I wanted it to be.
When negotiating a cube trade with @Fukuoka Kengo James, I mentioned that I mained an RS3M and owned most of the budget cube's line. He showed me a RS3M 2020 that had embedded magnets drilled into the plastic, and a ball-core reminiscent of the GAN 12 Leap. His friend had made it. Later, I would learn that the aforementioned friend had previously modded cubes for the famous Yusheng Du.
Going in without expectations (I was trading an old skewb and some lubes), I agreed to trade for the RS3M. Even if I didn't like it, surely it would be a welcome addition to my big RS3M collection. I received the cube yesterday. As soon as I opened it, I knew it was the one.
Okay! Let's discuss the cube.
The turning is very light and fast. Surprisingly tactile compared to the rest of the RS3M line.
It's not catchy at all in my opinion. I've never locked up on it. I do lock up on other cubes, (all of the ones i've ever tried), but this one has really free turning.
The embedded magnets do make a huge difference. The layers do not auto align, but they move freely with little force.
The magnetic core internal is different from other core manufacturers like the Cuber's Home brand they offer at TC and SCS. It's a lot more high quality in terms of the build, and more sophisticated as well. It is designed in a way similar to the GAN 12.
I set my 3x3 Ao12 PB and my 3x3 Single PB using this cube, on the first day of using it.
If you ever find yourself in the position where you can land a cube modded by DaYue Cube Store, pounce on it. I haven't seen anything much online about it, but this guy definitely deserves his flowers. This is legit.
3x3 Main for the foreseeable future. Possibly my OH main as well.. and blind.. who knows!
