I know that it is a long way away till 2027, but considering that bids are already being made for places, I thought why not start the thread.

Today, SveKub has very exciting news to share with you all.
Sweden will submit an application to host the WCA World Championship in 2027!

We plan to be able to welcome 2000+ competitors from all over the world to a Swedish city in July 2027, to settle for the biggest titles in Speedcubing.

We expect the application to be submitted in the spring of 2025. After that, it is up to the WCA to choose a host city from among the applications, and the winner will be presented at the World Cup in Seattle on July 6, 2025.

This is something that has been thought about for a long time, and we now have enough pieces in place that we are ready to make our plans public. Much work remains to make both the application and the championship the best in WCA history, and we are very much looking forward to that journey!

I legit could get a venue booked in my home town. (I’m not because it’s too expensive and it’d be a bad idea if I ran worlds)

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding, but isn’t this just saying that they’re going to apply to host it? I don’t think the WCA has indicated in any way that Sweden will be the true location for Worlds 2027, this is purely from the team in the Sweden.
Yes, you are right, that is the case.

The below does not mean that the WCA confirmed Sweden to host 2027
considering that bids are already being made for places

Have there been any other bids?
Usually no one announces bids this early anyway, previously all bids have been kept secret until the WCA board has made a decision so I suspect there haven't been any bids yet, and if there are, there is no reason why we have to know.

Update on Sweden’s bid

We are excited to share some updates regarding Sweden’s bid to host the WCA World Championship 2027!

We can happily announce that the competition venue for our bid has been selected: IFU Arena in Uppsala, Sweden.

Being Sweden’s 4th largest city, and located less than 20 minutes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, we believe Uppsala will be a very well suited city for a world championship.

In addition, we have established very strong collaborations with both the municipality’s tourism agency, and the venue itself. These collaborations include economic support for Worlds 2027, as well as supporting the organizing of two upcoming major competitions in the same venue to build our experience in working together.

Our team has been extended to include support and advice from experienced organizers of previous championships, and we are currently working on producing a bid document to be submitted in the coming months.

We look forward to continuing this journey, and to hopefully welcome you all to Uppsala in the summer of 2027!”
