Which Cube Should I Get? Up To Date Recommendations

should i get the hong or the gan 5x5? and which version should i get
i'm not the type of guy to set up a cube after i get it because i don't have all the right stuff, so i want a great performance of the box 5x5

edit: i'm getting it from thecubicle

The Hong requires a bit of cleaning of the mid factory lube, and a bit of breaking with lubes, so it may not be right be for you. The GAN, which I do prefer slightly less from trying, is admittedly great out of the box, and only needs a little bit of lube to be a great cube. For what you are saying, the GAN is a much better fit.

thanks, and i also forgot to ask which lubes do you recommend
Angstrom Dignitas and Gravitas are always good choices in general, being good on almost everything, but my favorite for big cubes is Lubest XMT10, because it makes puzzles very smooth, it makes them pretty fast, and it comes in the largest bottle in existence, so running out is nearly impossible.

Hello, ancient cuber from the past.

My girlfriend and I used to cube as teenagers and I would love to get back into it.

What 4x4 and megaminx are considered the best at this point? My averages for these are in the low 50s for 4x4 and mid 70s for mega. My 4x4 is a shenshou and my mega is an mf8.

Also do people still use silicone shock oil to lube cubes?

Also do people still mod their cubes anymore? I remember doing to pin mod on my V cube 6 and also on some sort of 4x4.

That makes no sense. Why use two cubes for two different methods?
I remember back in the day some Rouxers used different cubes because they had a different preference for magnet strength. I don't see how it applies here though. I guess there are more slice moves in Yau?? lol

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet because i cant be bothered to read through 90 pages but speedcube.com.au doesn't actually sell cubes anymore. They shut down late last year or early this year i think.

Welcome, ancient one! Man, the pony dates it.

Getting into mega, I recommend the YJ YuHu V2 M. At 14 freedom eagles, it's the best turning cube you'll find at this price point.

For 4x4, the MeiLong 4x4 M is also fantastic, especially for just $12.

These cubes are the closest to old cubes as I can get in terms of feeling without sacrificing performance.

Lubes are now easy to pick up, and you can go to sites like thecubicle.com and grab whatever you desire. I recommend DNM-37 and Mystic to start yourself off.

Pin mods are extremely outdated; new cubes make use of an internal latch mechanism.

This might be the most comprehensive list we have been looking for. I agree with this list execpt for 3x3 tho

Very nice and easy to use, and good quick reference for info like weight, noise etc. As for the scores, it would be nice to know the formula or weightings for their calculation, and esp whether price or value was considered in the score. The XT3 V1 is intriguing from this and a few other reviews.

Can someone tell me which cubes are worth upgrading out of my current main list, and should I get any unofficial events and lubes

2x2: Gan 251 M Pro
3x3: Weilong V10
4x4: MGC (thinking about this one)
5x5: Gan UV
6x6: Aoshi
7x7: Aofu
Clock: an a** qiyi clock
Mega: Dayan Pro
Pyra: Weilong standard (also thinking about this one)
Skewb: Gan enhanced
Squan: MGC with maglev kit

Current lubes: XMT-10, SCS Martian, Nebula, Galaxy, Stardust, and barely any lunar left lmfao ☠️
I have the dayan fto, an a** dino cube and an a** super floppy and that's basically it

Edit: I'm thinking of getting these cubes/lubes

Aosu 4x4 V7, which version
Should I get YLM pyra or keep it a weilong
Thinking of getting a master pyra, kilominx or gigaminx, and maybe weight 5 and other lubes, preferably from tc
