Hello and welcome back to Week in Review!
Here is a weekly update on notable results from the 29 competitions in Week 40. This week saw so many championships, in Nigeria, Argentina, Spain, the African Championship in South Africa and the Western US Regional Championship in Los Angeles alongside many other comps.

Records
Here are the top records of the week:
  • Max Park set a new 6x6 World Record Mean of 1:08.56 at the WCC Western Championship! this is Max's sixth WR for 6x6 this year and tenth WR Mean overall!
  • Caleb Trelford set a new Clock North American Record Average of 3.79 Seconds at Cubers Flood Watertown! whilst only beating his previous NR by 0.02, this keeps Caleb at 2nd in the world!
  • Leandro Martín López set a new Megaminx Argentinian Record Single of 27.43 Seconds at the Nacionales Argentinas! This keeps him at 4th in the world and was his fifth 27 Second solve!
  • Jaime Calzado Gomez set a new Clock Spanish Record Single of 3.48 Seconds at the Campeonato de España! This places 9th in the World and is Jaime's first sub-4!
  • Kyle Santucci tied the 3x3 Canadian Record Average of 5.93 Seconds at Rockies Rager Fall! This ties with Brennen Lin's average from June and places 7th in North America!
  • Ben Baron broke the 3BLD Israeli Record Single with 19.10 Seconds at Kubiat HaGalil A! This places 11th in Europe and beats his previous PB by over 3 seconds!
  • Lucas Nieuwland set a new Clock Canadian Record Average of 4.70 Seconds at the Western Championship! This places 12th in the world and is Lucas' 15th NR for Clock!
  • Eder Olivencia González broke the 4x4 Spanish Record Average with 26.75 Seconds at the Campeonato de España! This places 11th in Europe and is Eder's first NR for 4x4, breaking Dario Roa Sánchez's almost 10-year NR streak!
  • Eder also achieved a 5x5 Spanish Record Single of 44.74 Seconds at this competition! This places 8th in Europe and is Eder's 20th NR across four events!
  • Finally at the Campeonato de España, Carlos Méndez García-Barroso set a new Skewb Spanish Record Average of 2.12 Seconds! This places 6th in the World and is now only 0.1 seconds away from holding both ERs for Skewb, after taking the single back in July!
A non-record special mention goes to Brian Johnson for his 1.18 2x2 Average at the Mt. Prospect Open! This places 2nd for NR, CR and WR behind Zayn Khanani and is only the second person to break the 1.2 barrier!

  • Antonie Paterakis - 2.42 Pyraminx Average (Dutch Record) at the Campeonato de España. His previous PB was 2.74, and this places 26th in Europe and 71st in the World!
  • Biel Salmons Gonzalez - 6.86 3x3 Average (Spanish Record) at the Campeonato de España. His previous PB was 7.34, and this places 25th in Europe and 89th in the World!
  • Brendyn Dunagan - 1.42 2x2 Average at the Western Championship. His previous PB was 1.72, and this places 7th in the United States, 8th in North America and 20th in the World!
    1:38.53 6x6 Mean. His previous PB was 1:56.35, and this places 21st in the United States, 23rd in North America and 65th in the World!
  • Enda Loftus - 2.42 Pyraminx Average (Irish Record) at Cubing in Cill Chainnigh. His previous PB was 2.70, and this places 26th in Europe and 71st in the World!
  • Henry Lichner - 7.29 3x3 Average at the Mt. Prospect Open. His previous PB was 8.02, and this places 55th in the United States, 67th in North America and 187th in the World!
  • Max Walaszek - 1.53 2x2 Average at the Mt. Prospect Open. His previous PB was 2.29, and this places 21st in the United States, 23rd in North America and 47th in the World!
  • Rafael Rodriguez Santana - 24.67 FMC Mean at the Campeonato de España. His previous PB was 26.33, and this places 2nd in Spain, 19th in Europe and 42nd in the World!
  • Remo Pihel - 2.42 Pyraminx Average (Estonian Record) at the TEC Open. His previous PB was 2.88, and this places 26th in Europe and 71st in the World!
  • Sheldon Rego - 55.60 5x5 Average at the Massy Palais'Open B. His previous PB was 1:00.03, and this places 4th in India, 47th in Asia and 134th in the World!
New Countries
Here will detail competitors that were the first to represent their country this week!
  • Eritrea: Smret Abraham set the first NRs for Eritrea at the Swisscubing Cup V! In 3x3 he achieved a 36.72 Single and 42.44 Average. Forqan Hashemi also represented Eritrea and managed a 40.81 Single and 57.00 Average!
  • Mozambique: Rayyan Bacar set the first NRs for Mozambique at the Rubik's WCA African Championship! In 3x3 he achieved a 21.34 Single and 26.73 Average, and in OH achieved a 47.70 Single and 56.83 Average!
