Want to come back to cubing - a few questions

Hi,

I used to cube (avg 20s on 3x3 - have a Gan 11 M Pro gathering dust) and want to get back in.

i currently own a Gan 11, Valk 2 LM, Classic Rubiks (don’t know why im including this), and 4 Qiyi Warriors. I want to start 4x4 and Pyraminx on top of 2x2 and 3x3. I want to know what are the top 3 2x2, 3x3(probably wont need a new one), 4x4, 5x5, and Pyraminx on the market currently as I’m a bit out of touch. If all top 3 are MoYu then add another option as I don’t like MoYu. I prefer everything to be affordable(i want magnets and all that, but no excessive cost like I paid for my gan 11 - mid cost I guess), so if I could have some recommendations that would be appreciated.

Just two bits of advice. One, this thread has advice on what cubes you should get, go there. Two, don't get rid of your Valk, it's super valuable from what I've heard.

It’s true at this point it costs more than your GAN 11 M PRO you definitely want to keep it in your collection.

The Tornado? Wasn’t expecting that but yay at least it’s QiYi. What about 4x4s?

For 3x3, I actually recommend the Tornado V2. I've had it for over a year and a half and it has held up phenomenally. I've used the V3, and still prefer the V2 by a large margin.
It's up to personal preference, but give the V2 a shot.

I wouldn't buy a new 3x3 at this point. Your Gan 11 isn't outdated in the slightest.

Yeah I was thinking the same. What a waste of money it would be if I bought a new one. But anyone doing 4x4, is it worth it, or is it more worth grinding 3x3 (Fun point of view)

The YJ MGC 4x4 is probably the best bang for your buck ($20). Some people prefer other 4x4s, but this one's my main (it's also the only functional 4x4 I have )
I personally like 4x4 and practice it somewhat frequently, but not as much as 3x3 or 2x2

Just read this again, and I saw the ‘MoYu YS3M Ballcore’. I’ve heard of Maglev, but what is this ‘Ballcore‘ technology, and why the ‘Y’S3M. Just curious

That’s the version of the weilong v9 that is the best version too. It’s the MoYu version of corner-core magnets where they are hidden inside a ball. It’s called the YS3M because the Y stands for YuSheng Du who designed the puzzle.

So MoYu literally copied Gan but put a ball around the magnets? Fair enough I guess looking at how everyone uses Maglev now.

I mean when did GAN make a ball core cube and MOYU made the first maglev cube lol. Gan make good cubes but Insanely over priced, all of the moyu cube are under 50 dollars most under 40.

Edge Magnets? As in the GAN adjustable corner magnets but now on edges?

Check out the tornado v3, you can adjust the magnets that are on the edge pieces

Personally, for hardware:
2x2: Keep the Valk 2, it's fantastic
3x3: Keep the GAN 11, it's still great
4x4: For small hands, the YJ Zhilong Mini works for me, but bigger hands would work with the YJ MGC
5x5: YJ MGC
Pyraminx: Moyu Weilong Pyraminx Standard (don't get maglev as it is much too uncontrollable). But as you don't like Moyu, the Yuxin Little Magic pyraminx should do fine.
