(bungus style review incoming)
It all started with me, my ipad, and a certain website based in New York. I was searching long and hard for a good 2x2 to replace my QiYi MP 2x2. Then I saw this, the bad reviews didn’t seem to promising, but it was used by top cubers so, I decided on this kinda expensive small pocket-sized plastic puzzle.
Then one day or specifically, 7 days after ordering, the phone rang. I got the package and opened it. It came with lube, not the car lubricants, the cube lubricants. Stickers, and a fancy stand to display my colorful plastic toy like it is some prized gem. The suspense fills the air as I slowly unbox the cube but… i lose my patience and just pull the box from the cover and saw everything. I saw the future of my 2x2 career… So I opened what is probably the best spring-loaded multi puzzle box in existence and turned the cube. It didn’t feel like butter or turning air. It felt like turning a non-magnetic meilong 2x2 or in harsher words, GARBAGE. It was locky, slow, and slippery because if the matte or frosted plastic. I started contemplating my decisions thinking: “did i make a mistake buying this cube?” and “my QiYi MP 2x2 is better than this.” I looked at the accessories and saw some GAN nuts inside a case (that didn’t sound too good) and a box with a teeny tiny screwdriver and a typical GAN bag with some papers, one of which is useful, one is useless. I adjusted the nuts and turned them into compression 0.6 ( lower the number, the looser and the higher the number, the tighter) it felt better, but still locky. So i added some of my older GAN lube and wow did it improve. I turned the nuts back to 0.8 and set the magnet strength at medium. And from there started the rapid PBs. It was now fast, crunchy, but still loud. I got my first sub-2 average with it. It was underwhelming and slow at the start, but got faster and more enjoyable with setup, much like our cubing progress and with many other sports and/or hobbies.
So in summary: this cube is fantastic with setup. If you don’t set it up, you get a bad cube, wasting your 33 dollars. Even though it sounds like plastic wrap, it performs how a top of the line speedcube should.
