apparently there are some 8-movers to solve that case but I didn't know them.
also found a 30-move unforced LL skip literally 3 minutes in:

i thought doing sune + 3c was probably dumb but insertion finder gives 32 as optimal lmao
It's been 8 months and I've gotten better at 3x3 FMC, so I thought I would try to improve the 3x3 stage of my fourth attempt (57 OBTM).
I used the inverse of my old 3x3 stage solution as a scramble: U' L2 D' F2 U' F2 B2 U L' D' F2 B2 U R' L F2 R L' U' L2 U2 L2 D' B D L2 B2
Then I found this 23 move solution with HTR:

Just got a PB Mo3: 25, 26, 22 = 24.33
Also 25.00 ao5 and 27.20 ao12
1st solve 25 moves:
Quite a normal solve.
scramble: R' U' F D' U' R2 B2 U R2 U2 R2 F2 B U B' R B2 R F' L2 F2 U' R' U' F

2nd solve 26 moves:
Just found the DR with about 10 minutes remaining so there is propably a better ending in there.
But I had a 30 move backup solve ready so at least it is better than that would have been.
scramble: R' U' F L2 F2 R' B2 L' D2 R2 D2 F2 U2 F2 R' D F D' U R2 B' U' F L' R' U' F

3rd solve 22 moves:
A very good and a very lucky solve for me. That was the first EO I tried for this scramble and the first DR I found for this scramble
Had a 24 move solution in 7 minutes and 22 move solution in about 12 minutes.

Didn't technically do the fliptwist as an insertion because I didn't think it'd cancel more moves anywhere else.
Actual solution submitted was a boring 28 (16 to 5c, 8 cancel 2, 8 cancel 2).
Scramble: L F' D' L R' D2 F2 U' L2 R' B D' B D U2 L2 U

# = U2 L' D L U2 L' D' L // finish (8-2/30)
Actual solution I submitted was a 23 (tie NR2), but I found this cool 25 much earlier in the attempt.
Scramble: L U2 F' R F' D2 F2 U' L' B2 R' U' F' R' B2 U2
L2 D2 // square (2/2)
B U' B R B' F2 // 223 (6/8)

# = D L2 D' R' D L2 D' R // finish (8-2/25)
I had some time to spare (even though at this point I was guaranteed PR mean already) so I tried modifying the blockbuilding.
L2 D2 // square (2/2)
B U' B2 R B2 F2 // 223 (6/8)
(B D2 B') // EO (actually also DR lol) (3/11)

Didn't have enough time to exhaustively check all insertions, but I'll take it. Wouldn't surprise me if optimal inserts lead to 21 or 22 Actually I just checked, 23 is optimal here. IF also finds a 22 using 2c2c + 3c insertion but I don't think that's reasonable to find.
This 23 was also the best solution anyone got on this scramble. It's funny how that keeps happening; my global average is much worse than you-know-who and you-know-who, but because I almost never try DR and rarely even bother with EO starts, I sometimes end up getting good results on scrambles that suck for DR.
I just got this really good FMC scramble: R' U' F R' D L' U' F' L U B' U2 B' U2 B2 U2 B' L2 D2 L2 D2 F L' B2 R' U' F
I ended up putting my insertion stickers on wrong during the solve and I realized that when I had about 5 minutes left so I just inserted two commutators at the end and got a 37. Ugh.
Here is what I did:
(F' D2 L') // (2x2x2
(R' U' F' U2) // 2x2x3
(D' F2 D R) // EO
(F R2 U F2 U') // F2L-1
(F D' F2 D F2) // Solves edges, leaves me with a 5C at 21 moves!
(Do normal scramble followed by the reverse of every move done before this.)
R2 D L2 D' R2 D L2 D' // 1st commutator
D2 F2 D B D' F2 D B' D // 2nd commutator, which is literally just an A perm
The last of the 1st commutator and the first move of the second commutator are D' and D2, which cancel out to be D.
Here is the solution one written out:
F2 D' F2 D F' U F2 U' R2 F' R' D' F2 D U2 F U R L D2 F R2 D L2 D' R2 D L2 D F2 D B D' F2 D B' D
According to Insertion finder, I could've cancelled 8 moves. In other words, 8 moves for 5 corners.
hello i havent posted in a while but anyway here are the asr solutions
1)23 moves, R' U' F L' B L D L2 F' U2 R2 B2 F2 R F2 D' L' F' D F D2 R' U' F (18 opt)
(U' B2 U2 L' D)//EO (5/5)
(R) F' D2 B' D2 R//DR (6/11)
(D2 L2 D2 [B D2 F])//HTR (6/17)
(R2 U2 R2 D2)//S slice (4/21)
[]->(F' B2 R2 B' F2) (23)
Final: F' D2 B' D2 R D2 R2 U2 R2 F2 B R2 B2 F D2 L2 D2 R' D' L U2 B2 U
52 EOs checked, and I got the optimal finish for this DR (there is only one optimal finish)
I checked these other DRs:
(R' U F L B.)
(D F2 U2 R' U2 R')//3q (11)
B2 R F B
(D R) D' U2 L2 R' D' R//2q (12)
I had these other DRs but did not check them (bad corners):
(U) U' B2 L U
R (L2 D2 B F2 L) (11)
(R' U') U' B2 U'
(F) B2 L' B2 R' B (11)
Thoughts: This scramble was kind of bad, with 8/10/6 for EO. There were 3 4 movers but they were no good and I had to NISS for a lot more 6 to RZP than I usually do. +2 moves to solve slice feels unlucky but I guess it is not unexpected given that the skeleton only had 2 moves that were slice spots. 23 on this kind of scramble is pretty acceptable. Firstian Fushada and Shawn Lee almost found a 22 from a 12 move DR off of the EO R F' D L B, I didn't get that DR because the 4e4c looked bad and I'm not too keen on doing 12 to DRs anyway.
2)21 moves, R' U' F U R2 B2 R2 B' F2 R2 F U' L' R B2 U' F' R F' R' D' F' R' U' F (18 opt)
(F2 D2 R' B.)//EO (4/4)
(D' R F2 U2 L' D L)//DR (7/11)
(U') U2 F2 L2 U//HTR (5/16)
B2 D2 B2 D2 R2//solve (5/21)
Final: U2 F2 L2 U B2 D2 B2 D2 R2 U L' D' L U2 F2 R' D B' R D2 F2
52 EOs checked, optimal finish from EO!
I looked at these other DRs:
(L) F2 U' B' L
U F U2 D' F D//2q (11)
L D F2 U'
B R F L' F' L'//4q (10)
D' U2 B2 R' U
(F2 R D2 R' B)//4q (10)
Thoughts: Same solution as Fush
I found this DR very early on and immediately saw that on inverse you could do (D' F2 R2 D) for a HTR and then (R2 B2 D2) for 2e+slice which I traced backwards into the HTR trigger and saw that there was a 6-3 to leave E slice. I left that as a backup and speedran through the rest of the EOs in case there was a better DR.
When I came back to this I decided to try other HTR options and found the above solution which I realised was exactly the same as doing the 2e+slice insertion I first found.
You can actually turn ...D2 B2 D2 R2 U... into a 20 to slice but 21 was optimal from that too. Additionally after the +4 moves to HTR on inverse there is a direct +6 to E slice for another 21 which I did not find. I leave it as an exercise for the readers to find
3)20 moves, R' U' F R F2 L2 D L F2 B2 D F2 L2 U2 B U2 B' U2 F' U2 D2 L' D' R' U' F (17 opt)
F2 B' R//EO (3/3)
U' (B' R2 U2 F' D)//DR (6/9)
(R2 F2 R2 F)//HTR + random R2 (4/13)
(U2 F2 L2 D2 F2 R2 F2)//finish (7/20)
Final: F2 B' R U' F2 R2 F2 D2 L2 F2 U2 F' R2 F2 R2 D' F U2 R2 B
67 EOs checked, optimal finish(!)
I looked at these other DRs:
(F L2 R' B')
(R U L' D' L)//1q (9)
(F) D L' R B
(B2 L R2 D)//2q (9)
Thoughts: This one has quite the story. I found the non-final 9 move DRs within the first 15 minutes. I realised there was a good chance that I could already beat/tie PR with just these two, so I literally went full speed through the remaining EOs, and immediately discarded them if they were not RZP.
I finished all 67 EOs before the 30 minute mark, and realised maybe I went a bit too fast (ngl probably missed some premade RZP here). I decided to try to find RZP off of F2 B' R since I had some time left and that led to the 12 to HTR.
There's actually a direct 8 move finish off the 12 to HTR that I only found after I had gotten my original solution. I leave it as an exercise to the readers again
Also in the last 3-5 minutes, I found this 18 to S slice and I panicked but it did not give a 19 so 'thankfully' I did not have to risk a handwriting DNF WR fail. Here it is:
(B2 L2 F)// 12
(R2 U2 R2 U D' L2 U' D)// 8-2
I was genuinely expecting a 19 from this DR so I was kind of annoyed when I submitted it and I didnt even realise it was AsR mean until after I handed in the paper lol
Afterthoughts: This must be the first time I've gotten optimal finish on all 3 attempts.
I had a mean of FMC a few months ago and I was a little overambitious in my adoption of inverse scramble and NISS - I was unable to string together any solutions and DNFed two of the solves, with a only 34 on the 2nd solve.
Going into FMCats Wisconsin II 2023, I hadn't done any FMC practice at all so I decided to revert back to standard linear ZZ. I found all of my solutions in about 15 minutes. I'm kicking myself a little bit because I probably could have gotten sub30 if I had checked inverses as I definitely had time to explore more ambitious things than just other orientations.
I only solve blue front white top and I can only see eo in that orientation so I prerotated for all of these solves, which was the only thing that's remotely interesting.

B2 L' B' L B L' B' // lf
L2 B2 L' B' L B' L' B // zbll 31
Very happy with this solve. It was the 3rd thing I checked - bw after yb and yr. Obviously antisune zbll is very lucky but thats what FMC is all about.
Solve 2, R' U' F U2 R F2 U2 L2 R D2 B2 R' F' R2 F' R B' L2 B2 D2 U L D R' U' F

This was cool because I sorta inserted the zbll. I canceled a moved by starting early and transforming the ZBLL from an L case to a T case, which further canceled moves. Official PR by one move :D

If I had gotten a 28 on the last solve I would have broken John Brechon's former state record of 30.00 (Kit moved to IL and now SR is a 25 mean but none of us actually really count it). However, I'm still happy with the result.
I will have a round in two weeks at Nats, which I am very much looking forward to. I hope to be able to properly take advantage of inverse scrambles and NISS in order to get that sub30 single and mean.
