The Filacore Project | In which I revisit the mgc5

Do one for the GAN mirror
I don't like mirror blocks... I know that's not a good reason not to make one, but I think I would rather do something that I like first lol. I'm pondering the idea of qiyi ms 2x2, wrm 2021 (with edge repelling mags), rs3m 2020, yuhu mega (don't have this yet).

the filacore doesn't work in the 3d printed cube. too much friction as is, and no place on the corner feet. oh well, maybe that would've been too good to be true lol. what should I do next?
You could try making one for a non-NxN like pyraminx, megaminx, or skewb. (I've seen people do it for a weilong pyra before, and the Dayan V3 has core magnets. I don't think anyone has tried skewb before).

So, Filacore has begun working on a new project. The head engineer is planning on making two piece magnetic cores rather than a tedious 8 piece core. Should reduce time in installation. The only drawback is that this will be seriously restricted to individual puzzles. no longer will one core be able to accommodate nearly every speedcube.
The first two piece core that I will be making will be for the mgc 2x2. its excitement time.

Very smart to 3d print. Can be mass produced, and very light. Since its a file, It will be easy to edit. make sure to print some custom pieces too. Then you can turn your cube into anything and make it universal.

sounds like it can deoend on what type of filament is used...
you might take a look at this:
he's quite knowledgeable and experienced withba broqd range of design and nodding, very good

oof, tbh, these are very poorly built. I don't think these two are fair comparisons and don't really represent the full potential of either material. Already though, I am fairly seasoned in the world of 3d printing. I am as persistent in printing as I am with cubing. I currently print in Pla and it is my favorite. Mostly because petg and abs release toxins into the air, and pla has a nice look to it.

will finish full assembly in about an hour. I need to let the glue set. it is instant glue, but i want to make sure. Don't want to spoil the excitement lol. never had an auto aligning cube before this is so fun. the core kit I made is on par with the cubers home one and better (fingers crossed) than the maru one. the magnets sit very close to the corners. Not as close as gan's stuff, but should have a much more responsive feeling.

Okay, have done about 30 solves on the cube now which isn't much, but before I begin the overview, I'd like to highlight that I own two wrms so I am able to compare stock to modded. Okay, let's jump into it. Let's talk about the AA part first. The auto alignment. After working with this puzzle, I have come to realize that while it is maglev, the pieces are quite fat. Lot's of contact between the pieces. a very solid internal mechanism. This unfortunately reduced the visual pleasentry of the self-turning effect, but you can notice it mid-flick. If you slowly do a U, it takes over after the first 45 deg. As for the corner to core magnets, they are very nice. I can now set this cube up with very fast while still being able to control it. In regard to feel compared to the stock version, it is slightly heavier. The sound is crazy. Almost like spraying whipped cream out of the can. I literally don't need to corner cut any more. I mean, I'm afraid I'll get lazy if I use this cube too much, I get zero lock ups. I will do some averages later today. hopefully get some sub 16 ao5's. I will also do a stock vs modded ao50 in the days to come. maybe even a Filacore vs Gan. Overall, this mod was an absolute success. I was so surprised how well the edge magnets sat in the edges. I was a bit afraid modding a $30 cube, but knowing it wasn't absolutely perfect for me, I dove in to get closer to perfection. If anyone wants the files, give me about a week to do some final testing, and I'll be more than happy to give the plans and walk you through the process. Woohoo

Peace 4 n0w
Can't wait to mod something else.
-1x1 wr holder!

Good News:
I have received word that a product containing one of my Filacores has arrived at the Cubicle NY for testing.

Wrm 2021 Filacore testing update:
Halfway through testing. The cube turns very well and is very forgiving. Too forgiving in my opinion. It has already made me so lazy lol. I did some 4x4 last night and my turning was all wacked up cuz I was so used to the modded wrm helping me so much. Nothing negative to report.

Future projects for Filacore:
2x2's have been scratched off of the list. They are very hard to print small pieces for, and I don't really like 2x2 (the experience just ends so quickly). I had an idea for the qiyi m pro, but that was killed by the recent additions to the qiyi m pro line. Looking to improve the Mgc 5 Filacore once I get mine. Thinking about doing a Filacore Xman shadow v2 (I stink at 6x6 so mbenot). Most likely will do Filacores for kilominx and Megaminx in 2024.
