YES! YES! HECK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!! You guys have no idea how happy this makes me. I have never made it into the semifinals of ANYTHING. I am so happy right now.

Also, please don't edit this. I have not had my name so mispronounced since 2012. It makes me laugh so hard. Thank you.
Less than 1% that is super impressive, congrats on making semifinals too!

QUARTERFINAL RESULTS

@CAPTAINVALPO96 @Abram Grimsley @Cubist-Guitar @bldcuber314 @SkewbIsTheBestEvent @AJT17

Amazing, astounding, sensational job. This was perhaps one of the most challenging rounds of this competition in terms of pure speedsolving, and you all did fantastic work. You also solved five puzzles in a row. That’s pretty neat!

The time has come. The top three competitors of The Battle of Wits and Whims (and therefore the three who podium) will be revealed. I made the results hidden for suspense. Click if you dare.

Cubist-Guitar | 36.84% from target

CAPTAINVALPO96 | 23.55% off from target

SkewbIsTheBestEvent | 22.07% off from target

bldcuber314 | 17.56% off from target

AJT17 | 5.58% off from target

Abram Grimsley | 0.54% off from target

He was the only competitor with a LOWER time than his target, and voluntarily chose to not use his advantage this round. Abe Grimmy deserves the advantage in the Semifinal Round 100%.

The semifinal format will be revealed in the near future. Stay tuned folks.
Are there any more opportunities to re-enter this? 😭

Are there any more opportunities to re-enter this? 😭

Unfortunately I only planned to have one of those in this competition. I think we’re also at too few people to switch things even more, especially given that I already declared the podium. I very well may host another competition in the future, though. You also made it very far in and got to compete in all but two rounds (6/8)!

Semifinal Round Information

Congratulations on making it to the podium @Abram Grimsley, @AJT17, and @bldcuber314. Only two more challenges await before declaring our big winner after all this time! It has been absolutely wonderful hosting this competition, and I love the engagement and participation it’s gained. I hope to put on more in the future when I have more free time!

As mentioned previously, @Abram Grimsley will be granted an advantage in the Semifinal for winning the Quarterfinal! As for the final, I will say in advance that there are NO ADVANTAGES. Your advantage is qualifying, and everything will be equal in the final.

Now for the competition details:

For the semifinal, we will be doing another multi-puzzle relay, except it’s raining nickels and your computer is on fire. Each of you will complete a relay of four events. Sounds easy enough, right?

No.

There will be a cycle of event options. I will create four lists of three random events which you can all complete. A list will start at one competitor, then the remaining two events will go to another. The final unselected event will go to someone else. As Quarterfinal champion, Abram gets first pick in two lists, while the other two get first pick in one list each. At the end of this cycle, you will all end up with four puzzles with potentially repeated event. Let me know if there is a limitation to the number of puzzles which you physically own, if there does happen to be a repeat somewhere. Allow me to provide an example diagram for how this will work.

@Abram Grimsley will be provided two of these lists, and he will then select which of each give to either of his opponents for second pick. @AJT17 and @bldcuber314 will similarly be given one list each, and they too will decide which of their respective opponents to allow second pick. This way, the chance of getting second or third pick on 2-3 of your lists is completely random and in the hands of your opponents!

Now how will these relays be timed? I’m glad you asked! Like last round, I will be going with your official or site PRs. However, I will be using your averages this time as the target. These will be added up based upon your final four events for a total time you should aim for during this relay. Unlike last round, you will not need to perfectly match your time! Faster = better in this scenario, no matter how much faster that is. If you go over your target, you’ll receive a negative increment of time and feel sad.

There is no elimination round. The top two qualify and the eliminated competitor secures their podium place as third. I will begin DMing lists soon. You will be DMed lists from other competitors with your second pick selection or the third pick you’ll be stuck with for eternity. Who selected whom will be a surprise for the end! DO NOT POST THE LISTS OR EVENTS HERE until everyone has selected. I will then post those and add your averages together so it’s nice and neat and you don’t have to do math.

Have a lovely night.

SEMIFINAL ROUND RESULTS

The results are in, and I will now reveal our grand finalists. Everyone actually beat their target times, which is very excellent. But unfortunately, only two competitors can continue onto the final round.

@bldcuber314 @Abram Grimsley @AJT17

The finalists are AJT17 and bldcuber314!

3. @Abram Grimsley : 1.43% below target
2. @bldcuber314 : 8.38% below target
1. @AJT17 : 10.92% below target

Even though Abe Grimmy's journey in this competition ends here, he will still be on the final podium in 3rd place.

As mentioned previously, there is no advantage in the final. Give me some time to come up with some good ideas, because I have several important projects I need to finish at work for this next week.

Have a divine weekend.
