I can do 5e pretty easily, so I don't think I'm trying to advance faster than I should.
Besides generally struggling, I keep making extra pairs/blocks and forgetting which ones I actually want to use. Ryan's website is the most helpful tutorial I found, and it doesn't seem to go into detail about when to use which strategy.
Edit: I can (inefficiently) make the two pairs. I just can't get anywhere useful from there
