So I got the large Dayan mega today and it is great, it feels like a totally different cube than the normal one and I got some great times with it. Interestingly, it it less loud and clacky and has better corner cutting even on the same settings. Unfortunately mine came with 7 of the corners with their core magnets having fallen out, but I was able to fix that with a little glue and patience. The main thing though, is that I now have the Diansheng FTO and have(somewhat) learned how to solve it. I've solved it twice so far using some random beginner method as after initially getting it my understanding of the puzzle was very low and I was having trouble learning Bencisco, but I switched back to learning it and am doing so right now after getting a better grasp of the way it works and how certain commutators affect the puzzle. I'll post more updates about my FTO progress and am hoping to compete in it unofficially and Mid-Atlantic champs.

Decently big update:
I practiced FTO some recently and have gotten a 1:22 single and am roughly WR130 in FTO now, still working on learning Bencisco though.

I got a pb OH ao12:

First sub-20 ao12 and it was pure counting sub-20

But definitely the highlight of my pbs recently is my first ever sub-2 2x2 ao5.

I have also been stil learning cll and learned the pi cases yesterday which I ended up using in TWO of these solves which was definitely pretty cool and made me feel satisfied about learning them.

5. (4.14) R' F R2 F2 U2 R' U F R'

I was so happy with this as I plus-2ed out of a 1.97 ao5 on 2 separate occasions recently so this was great to finally get. The scrambles are actually insane and had crazy potential.
1. yellow green bar bottom left:
R' U2 R' U' R U' R2 U R2 U R2 U' R U'

not too happy with my exec on this but still a nice time, only about 7 TPS I think

2. Unsolved red corner front bottom right
R U R' U' R U R' L' U' L U L F' L' F U'

Pretty happy with my exec here as it was almost 11 TPS which is good for me.

3. Blue red bar bottom left blue on bottom
U' R2 U R' (R' U' R' F R F' R U' R' U2 R)

I could have cancelled a move her but still decently happy with this as I learned this alg yesterday and to use it in pb ao5 is really cool, done at ~6.6 TPS

4. Orange bar bottom left
R U R (R U R' U R U2 R') U2

Could have cancelled again here but still happy to have locked in the avg, done at ~8 TPS

5. Idek it was just a normal ortega solve that I did really badly and got a bad time on

Overall super happy with the 2x2 and OH avgs, I have a comp in september, october, and november so looking forward to those 3.

I really have sort of lost the want to post my progress here for some unknown reason, I guess I'm just getting busier with other stuff but my FTO progress has been really nice recently so here is a screenshot of that. I am currently in the home state of Luke Garrett on a road trip and did 400+ solves over the past few days across ~25hrs in the car. I'm halfway to FTO bronze solver which will be a very cool achievement when I get it! I think the hardest thing will be the sub-30 single and the ao5 I got really close to and kind of choked on when I had multiple chances because the good solves were back to back, but I should get it soon.
Screenshot 2024-07-31 081506.png
I also have 3 potential upcoming comps(One of them I have to register for tomorrow) and am continuing to grind FTO for Mid-Atlantic. I am also trying to grind 5x5 and get sub-1:30 global to get my 9th event qual for worlds but it is not going as well and I have only done a few solves recently.

It seems you average the same as I did last week. To that I congratulate you, since you are rapidly approaching bronze like me. If you would like some help from a sub 35 solver, I would be more than happy to help you. In general though, I know your first center is slow and inefficient (8-10 seconds on average) and you probably don’t plan your full center. Do that, because it drops your times by a lot

Thanks for the advice! That is almost exactly where I'm at on my center so I will work on that.

I got the last thing I needed to reach FTO bronze today(sub-40 ao5) after getting a 40.01 ao5 and thankfully performing well enough to roll it to 39.22 and then rolling that to 39.07 so I was very happy today, I just submitted the times so I cannot send a screenshot of them on the rankings spreadsheet yet but I will write the times for each required metric below. My nerves on the ao5 were the highest they have ever been in cubing as I wanted to reach bronze badly and I have gotten 4 or 5 sub-40.3 ao5s before this due to getting WPA from nerves but it feels great to be bronze now.

Requirements for bronze are sub-30 single, sub-40 ao5, sub-45 ao12, and sub-50 ao100.

Yooooooooo nice job! Fast improvement too as well. Sub 40 ao100 soon?

I have been practicing FTO a lot recently mainly because I am aware that it is being held at Mid-Atlantic Champs in October and today with help from @Chris Choi's FTO Kinch calculator I decided to check who all is going to Mid-Atlantic Champs out of the top 100 solvers. The number was a lot lower than I expected and I am going to make it a goal to improve enough in time to be 3rd or 2nd on this list before the comp. I realize this is not guaranteed to be an accurate way of seeding FTO for a few reasons:

- Registration is barely halfway full and more people could join at any time
- Some of these solvers may not be competing in FTO(I would imagine they all are though)
- There may be many people who are very good at FTO going who have not submitted times anywhere

Charles Jerome - 9th in the world
Owen Chester - 56th in the world
Ledger Ramirez - 62nd in the world
Myself - 73rd in the world(Probably low to mid-60 once I submit my current times)
Blake Thompson - 85th in the world

Improvement Plan:

I have been cranking out solves for the past week or so while on a road trip and have over 1100 FTO solves in my CSTimer session, but have slightly peaked in the past 50 or so simply because I have not learned anything to lower my times further and am sitting around a 42 average now. To remedy this, I am going to be using the playlist for improvement from benpuzzles and any other useful FTO tips I find. I'll try to regularly share progress(maybe once a week or so) and share things I have learned and my pbs. Here are my pbs at the time of starting this:

Today I began improving my center efficiency and fingertricks, I will post an update whenever I feel like it in the next week or so.

You definitely got this. I should have gone so that I can podium at FTO, but you have got this. Get good at centers and First Triples and you will be on your way to the podium I never had

So I've gotten a bit of FTO practice in over the past few days and have now reached a sub-38 ao100 as well as breaking all of my pbs since my last post. I have passed Owen Chester on the kinch rankings sheet which puts me in 3rd as far as seeding goes for Mid-Atlantic Champs now, although Ledger Ramirez has been improving at an alarming rate and I am working on catching up. I decided to order the anti-pop kit from TC today as I am popping around every 20 to 25 solves recently and would like to mitigate that. I haven't really learned any new material for FTO but plan to do so soon.

In addition to my FTO progress I learned some more CLL algs and am now done with H, S, AS, U, and I am halfway done with L cases which puts me at 31/42 overall. I did around 300 2x2 solves while in the car yesterday and got a 2.82 ao100 using a mixture of CLL and Ortega. My TPS has been great lately with most of my Ortega solves being sub-3 consequently. I have a comp coming up in early September and would like to set a reach goal of maybe making 2x2 finals(bottom of psych sheet is 2.78 avg). I'm working on finishing up learning the last 3 L algs and then I am left with only T cases to go.

I'm not going too in depth this post bc it is 11pm rn and I need sleep but I got a really nice pb 2x2 ao5 by .13 and I had some crazy FTO improvement today.

not reconning this for the same reason listed in the first sentence but I was really happy with this.

Today I set up my FTO using Weight 5, Fz calm, and Scs nebula(weird combo ik) and had absolutely massive improvement for some reason. I broke all of my pbs and it feels like a completely different puzzle. I will show a screenshot of my FTO stats as well as the drops in my pbs after setting it up.

Single: 24.87 --> 23.95(This was fullstep as well unlike most of my other pb singles so far)
Ao5: 34.88 --> 30.44(Pretty close to sub-30 and all I needed on solve 5 was a 32.9 or better to get it)
Ao12: 35.49 --> 32.54
Ao100: 37.7x --> 34.33

Another cool thing about these times is that all of them will be top 50 in the world once they get accepted!(Yes it took me nearly 2000 solves to get here)

Overall really great pbs and improvement these past few days, I have a package with a primary DS FTO and an anti-pop kit coming tomorrow so I will send an update at some point in the near future pertaining to those.

P.S. Literally while I was posting this they got accepted somehow(I submitted them no more than 5 min ago as I am typing this) and I am now ranked 43rd for FTO kinch.

So this is somewhat of a spontaneous post but I feel like making one today because I haven't posted on this thread in almost a month and I have a comp tomorrow, which will be my first since June and I've improved a good bit since then.

I'll start with my new globals and then comp goals afterward. I've improved my ao100s in 2x2 and 3x3 to 10.99 and 2.82 respectively, and I have not practiced many other events recently. Unfortunately I've somewhat halted my FTO improvement due to school starting and only doing a few NxN solves per day, but I plan to derust a bit before Mid-Atlantic.

Comp Goals:
2x2: Sub-3 avg, I really want to make worlds phase 2 for something at least.
3x3: Sub-11 avg
4x4: Sub-50 avg, I probably won't beat my 46 avg as I am rusty.
Pyra: Idrc and I prob won't beat my prs as they are very good for me.
Clock: Idek, maybe pr which would be mid-11.

I definitely care the most about 2x2 at this comp, I had been grinding while I had time over the summer and reached a high 2 global, I know 30ish out of 42 CLLs but I am very worried about nerve control for this comp because my TPS is very good at home and I can consistently get sub-3 on fullstep ortega solves if there is not a good CLL case. The problem with this is that this practice has been done in good conditions with warm up and I know I will struggle to replicate this TPS tomorrow. The two main issues I have in comp with 2x2 are pressure to get a good avg because I care about the event, and my cube feeling extremely fast to the point that it doesn't even feel like mine. I found that this is similar to doing solves after the cube has been turned very fast nonstop so I have been doing comp sims in which I try to replicate the way the cube feels in comp and getting mostly 2.8-3.2 avgs. I know this sounds rather odd to have a problem with this but it is something that often makes it hard for me to turn accurately. I decided to mitigate the way this will be by adding a bit more weight 5 into my cube and making a setup that I can still reach good TPS on despite it being slower and more controllable.

I'll post results after the comp tomorrow, hopefully it'll go well, main things to work on if I have time today are CLL exec and nerve control.

So I did pretty badly at my comp yesterday and missed out on all of the goals I set, although I did get a single pr which was clock single by .4:

3x3: Not great solving all around, was kind of off and did not do that well, pretty bad averages and singles were decent.

2x2: Very disappointing average, I had dropped my global to 2.8 since my last comp down from 3.4 and was hoping to get something good, but I did the wrong pi cll on 3 and a lockup on 5 that made the cube 3 moves off after pbl. I was seriously hoping to get a sub-3 avg at this comp and was even more disappointed after finding out that a 3.74 avg was enough to make finals, when on the psych sheet it was 2.78. My next comp will be Mid-Atlantic champs in October and I hope to finish CLL by then in order to get a better average.

4x4 was decent, average solving and a pretty good single, I had gotten a 42.09 pb avg in warm up so I felt good and did okay relative to my global.

Clock was kind of disappointing to count a 13 but I don't practice at all outside of comp so this was fine.

Pyra was an event that I did not care too much about going into this but I messed up a really easy scramble on solve 5 that cost both pr average and single, as well as making finals as I was only 3 spots off and assuming my exec was good on that solve I would have been top 10 in the round and made finals.

Overall this was not a great performance and I am hoping to do better at Mid-Atlantics. I'll try to finish up CLL by then to maybe get another shot at a sub-3 average.

Been a few weeks since I posted here but I started doing 7x7 and have done 15 solves so far, I've added it to my registration to Mid-Atlantics in hopes of getting a single. I'm currently averaging low 6 and got my first ever sub-6 single today on the 15th solve, which was a 5:55.314. My current Mo3 pb is 6:13 but that will probably improve a lot after a few more solves. I'm using a YJ YuFu V2 that I bought at my first comp, and have had a centerpiece break which I was able to fix with some glue, although I'm hoping to get the AoFu in the future, but that will definitely be after Mid-Atlantics. Additionally, I finished my first ever full 3x3 ao1000 which was 11.50 and got a 10.99 ao100.

Lastly, I got a DS kilominx recently and am averaging 28-32 and have a pb single of 23. Not a huge update although I am very proud of my 7x7 progress as I went from 8 to low 6 minute averages after just a few solves. I might try to keep this more updated in the future if I feel like it, but we'll see.
