Silicone Spray Lube Effects

So my 3x3 was getting a bit sluggish, and I bought Silicone Lube from Walmart. I applied it to my speedcube, and it turned extremely smoothly afterwards, which was nice. But what was not nice was that the paper towels, in which I used to prevent my desk from getting silicone all over it, stuck to the plastic of my cube. Now the outside is all stained and has little pieces of paper towel stuck to it, which does not look nice. If anyone could tell me how to get these stains off my cube, and possibly prevent this from happening in the future, that would be nice. Thanks.

Not sure about getting the stains off, but to prevent it, you probably should switch to something other than silicone lube. Generally Maru lube, Lubix, thecubicle's lubes, and Traxxas are what people use. Many of those are particularly made for cubing or similar hobbies, so they're not going to have any side effects, and they're also really good.

I have used Silicone Spray since 2010, and still occasionally use it today with great success. That being said, I have never experienced any outward staining on my puzzles. I admit I can not be of any assistance in that regard.
My only advice would be to put on the "straw" that came with it on and take an edge out, also spray it outside so that the use of paper towels isn't needed, plus it has a harmful odor. If you do that then the next time you use it should be a success.

If Silicone Spray is all that you have I wouldn't bother buying any other lubricant. Silicone Spray is my preferred lube because it doesn't ware-out (like Maru) plus it is easy to apply (unlike Lubix or Cubicle,). I have never used Traxxas so I can't say anything about that.

All in all, this is my just my opinion. An "older" opinion. When I started cubing Silicone Spray was the best lube out there. People like Yu Nakanima and Erik Akkersdijk where using it so naturally we all were using it at the time.

Point being that my opinion is BIAS!
