Rubik’s in speedcubing

Do you think that what rubies is doing as a brand is aggressive and/or expansionist?

I’m kinda interested in the way Rubik’s (the brand) has tried to infiltrate the speedcubing world and this thread should hopefully be a discussion of that, just look at the title of the continental championships this year.

Here’s a summary of what they have done in the past:

-Cubicle Lawsuit
- GAN Collab ‘speedcube’
- Brand ambassadors
- more cubes (magnetic cubes, smart cube)
- Comp naming

I think they're just doing average company money stuff. Afraid that speedcubes will draw attention away from their own brand, so they sue the main supplier. Afterwards they see how rapidly growing the speedcubing scene is and decide to slap their name all over the place so any outsiders looking in are directed towards the Rubik's brand products. So they partner with GAN to try to repair brand image, and thus follows the sponsorships, comp names, new cubes, etc.

Marketing, really.
