quest to sub-10 | SUB 20!!

I've forgotten everything I'd learnt around 3 years ago. That includes almost all of the PLL algs i learnt (save for Jb Perm), all of the OLL algs (except Antisune and a block case...?). Right now, I've dropped down to sub 40 from around sub 22. My objectives for this month (cubing-wise):

1. Finishing 2LOLL and all of the PLL cases: This is probably the most important to me as of right now. If I relearn all of the algorithms, my estimation is that I'll get to sub-30 in around 10-ish days with an hour of practice each day.

2. Relearning the Yau Method (4x4): 4x4 is one of my favourite events. Although I'm slow (sub 3 minutes), I'll start with relearning the method and parity algorithms. I want to at least finish the OLL and PLL parity algorithms this month if that's what it comes to.

So... yeah. That's pretty much it. I don't know how much I'll be able to do though, seeing as how my Half-Yearly examinations are going on (albeit they will end on saturday) but after that I have a debate competition on Monday/Tuesday. With board exams this year, my progression won't be as rapid as it used to be, but I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge.

So, I haven't had much time today, as such, I've only done 1 ao5. I'd say that this is wildly inconsistent. I've noticed having to stop and look at where my pieces are before continuing. It's mostly Cross + F2L that's sorta throwing me off, because PLL I just brute force using the Jb Perm and the Ua/Ub perm algs.

I'd say that the two things I have to work on are: Planning + Execution.

I did a few more solves, got to PLL (most of the times) by around 18-ish seconds. Then PLL algs took like 10 seconds to do.1723653795451.png
I think I'm averaging a bit better, still kinda reliant on muscle memory. That's how I discovered that i remembered both A perms and the T perms, which is good, but I defo need practice. Also, there's this chess tourney coming up at my school. I'm like 470-elo and I don't really want to participate, but I am thinking of just going for it, so we'll see how that goes (I beat Magnus-Bot on chess.com mwahahha (bullet)). But yeah, I'll just manage it.

B2 L2 F2 U' R2 D2 F2 D' F2 U' F2 R2 F R2 F2 U' L' D2 B2 F R'

First sub-20 single in over two years!!

Got extremely lucky with this scramble, good cross and two F2L pairs set up, and then ez OLL case + Ja Perm.

18.67

Felt really good after that one.

I've also come to a conclusion. The last time I tried getting to sub 10 (my exploits are detailed in this thread: old thread), I was sort of held back by a negative mindset around the time I quit. So that really hampered my progress, seeing as how I was frustrated with not being able to break sub 20 despite continuous practice and effort, I decided to give up on it. Thus, I really have to work on my mindset AND speed. Welp, at least I have my goals are in sight (my school also wants me to get 99.4% in the boards 💀)

just completed an ao50. time distribution is this:

mostly averaging between 24-32s. will work on PLL and F2L, F2L's taking me approx 8-10 seconds.

just messing around randomly, i just did an N-Perm without even realising. guess this muscle memory thing is becoming handy lol. but any tips for F2L? i think that's costing me a ton of time, seeing as how i finish f2l around 17s and the solve around 24-25.

i also finished both parity algs (beginner variants) for 4x4 today, so that's cool. on a side note, should slice turns be used for middle edge permutation cases on 4x4? i don't think so, but i see no other option other than learning a ton of new algs.

alright i mean... we're getting somewhere. i've been doing 3x3 today. so basically, i found that my cross execution is pretty good, i can plan the entirety out in inspection. after that i solve with intuitive f2l mostly and then 2LOLL and PLL or sometimes 2LPLL if i don't remember the alg. i wanna finish PLL first then start OLL, but what algs should i try to knock out first in PLL? i think Na/Nb and then the G perms following which i'll do the rest.

yup do the g's first

tru, but for some reason i learnt the g's last cause theyre the hardest. I just had a competition with my friend to see who would learn full pll first, and tht gave lots of motivation!
g perms are a pain, i feel like even if i learn the alg i can do T and the U perms so much faster than the G perms.

got my first sub 20 ao5 today in 3 years with a PB single of 15.73!!

1: U' L2 D R2 F2 R2 D' B2 D2 F2 D2 B' D2 R B U2 B' D L' B (17.62)
2: U2 F2 D' R2 F2 U R2 F2 R2 B2 R2 D' R B2 F' L' D B2 F' R2 (15.73 PB!!)
3: F D B R' B' R' U R2 F L2 F2 R2 U2 R F2 D2 F2 L2 F2 R (21.50)
4: R' F2 L2 D' B' L2 F U2 D R D2 B2 D' F2 D R2 F2 D' B2 L2 B2 L2 (22.77)
5: F' R2 B2 R2 D2 B' U2 B' L2 F U2 L2 U' R D' U B2 R' U L2 U2 F' (16.53)

insanely cool progress, im officially sub 25 at this point because ao100 is back where it used to be, at a nice 24.94. i think once i finish PLL i can totally bring that down to sub 21 and possibly even sub 20!

YET ANOTHER PB SINGLE. 14.17! the cross was really easy and i got a lot of ez f2l pairs. add that to a sune and Jb perm, i got this!! progress is really going well, i'm averaging 22 seconds rn.

first reconstruction so forgive me, but i think this is correct.
